I have a jack type object that was made by simplex manufactoring in chicago co... I t has ears on it for compression and has a reversible rachet screw in the center to raise and lower it .. It is approx a foot tall and has a name tag that says SIMPLEX- UTIL A TOOL -- Does any body know what it is and what was/is used for ?? heellpp!

Thanks, Clem, but as I said before, being a mental cripple and all....a simple "good morning" taxes my miniscule brain no end...... the two good brain cells I got, start arguing wether or not it is a "good morning", then I wind up with a head ach, from them creating such a stir, then I must take something to relieve the tension, then I have to go lie down for awhile, next thing I know It's morning again and the whole peocess starts over again! The only respit I have is a cloudy day...and they certainly have been few and far between, lately......well....I feel the urge to go lie down, again, have a gooder, R.E.L.

Sounds like some kinda push=pull mechanical"porta power" type device.

Folks at the below website are selling a viewmaster reel about it.(last item)

Simplex was a major mfg of commercial screw jacks for railroad,mining,constuction.I have a 5 and a 12 Ton made by them.Cast/forged iron construction similar to a small traffic cone,with acme thread screw out the top and dimpled top saddle.What you have may be something more geared to homeowner/farm use.
