That Fire that is burning near us is around 30,000 acres! The wind is blowing the smoke over us so bad that you would think it is on my place! It smells real bad out and looks like we are in a fog! We are going to have lightning again tonight and it will be hard to tell if we have a fire or not. We are having a red flag warning and it is real dry. We are having to close our windows due to the smoke. Man this reminds me of last year to much! Cross your fingers it ain't over till the Fat Lady Sings!! Mark H.

Mark, I feel for you since we have just been through that this year! It has been burning all over our neck of the woods, least of which was that fire of 400,000+ acres on the AZ/NM state line! We are doing the 'Defensible Space' thing sponsored by the U.S. Forest Service. They come and look your place over, mark what needs to be cleared to remove fire hazards, and will reimburse you part of your expense of removing the stuff. It may mean losing trees right next to your home but makes it easier to defend by fire crews. Also, we realized that everything can be replaced except for family photos and important papers. We keep the important papers in a safe deposit box at the bank and have our photos all together during fire danger so they can be removed quickly. Everything else can be replaced. Just suggestions to think about for the future.

Mark, I know you have done lots of work to your place and it looks great, but are you sure you shouldn't move to keep the family safe?

It is only Fire Season for 2+ months of the year then it is smooth sailing for the next 10 months. It is kind of Tornados, Hurricans and Floods except I can fight back when it comes to a fire. Not sure I would deal real good with those other problems. Mark H.

Thanks! Not to much to burn near the house except grass since because of last years fire. But it still needs to be dealt with because of the building!! Mark H.
