I bought two halves of old cowhide at a sale awhile back and was wondering what to use to bring it back to life? it's not cracking, just stiff. Is there something I could soak it in?

Hi OL,
Probably the least expensive oil is linseed. It has some odor, but that may not be a concern for your purpose. Neatsfoot is better, but more expensive. For small items or harness, saddle soap is good. I keep a gal of lindseed oil at the barn and use a paint brush to apply it to my leather boots. Keeps them soft and water resistant. Good luck.
