Thank Goodness; Political Correctness has yet to find it´s way here to Mexico!

Hello: As I read the messages here, one thing recurring theme I see is the death of common sense, and the rise of political correctness in the USA.

Folks here still aren´t afraid to call it like they see it, while still having respect for whatever they are calling. For example, folks here think I am Mexican even though I am blond with green eyes, until they hear me speak Spanish. There are many folks in this region that are natural blonde, with green or blue eyes. So, they yell to me ´Guero´, which means white boy, more or less. These folks aren´t hamstrung by PC, and I believe their lives are better for it.

In this rural region, respect for oneself and ones family are of paramount concern. When I do have a chance to watch Direct TV, my wife and I are appalled by what we see, especially the way women act on TV or the movies. What are they thinking, have they lost all decency? I guess I have been out of the USA too long. I love the USA, and it is still the best thing going, but we have a long way to go to get back on track with our base morals, no matter what your religious beliefs are. OK, I´ll step off the soapbox now. Sleepy

Guero!

Guess I've been watching to many cowboy movies. I thought it was "Gringo".

Fenwick & Spence: You are correct about Gringo; the word guero is a differant word, one that describes a person with natural blond or red hair, with green or blue eyes. Believe it or not, the region where we live in central Mexico, being natural blonde with light eyes is more the rule than the exception. This area was settled by folks from Galicia, in the north of Spain, which was conquered long ago by Celts from Scotland. That and the fact other immigrant groups such as French and Dutch (my wife claims Dutch ancestors) settled this region.

Gringo, on the other hand, derived from the War of 1848, between Mexico and the USA. When the Americans would order a charge, the officers would yell ´Green Go!´. Just a little history lesson for today. Sleepy

Yup, watch a couple hours of day time TV and it's not too hard to understand why half the world hates us.

Only TV and movie women act that way, same with men. Real men and women aren't exciting enough for entertainment purposes, I guess.
