Was thinking about enrolling in the forest stewerdship program in Southern PA. Are there any bad sides to the program I should be aware of? Pros-Cons? thanks DavePA

You should check out if, who, and when you will have to let people enter your property. Have neighbors who have there land in a forest program and they have people comming from 100 miles away to hunt on their land. Last year I had some of these people enter my property to hunt. The program in this state gives you a property tax break, but you have no control over who enters your land.

The tax break never came up during our chat, I was no aware of such a thing. As far as hunting rights there are non . We did discuss some deer fencing to see the diffrence in the under growth where the deer are not able to browse. Also discussed allowing local college students to visit from time to time to record the growth in the protectd areas. So far all seems to be kosher. But, still would appreciate all your comments. thanks Dave

Dave,

I don't know any of the pros or cons yet but I've been considering the same thing. If you find out anything let me know. I'm also going to check out the forestry link. Where are you in Southern PA? I'm in Southeastern PA, just north of the MD line.

Dave, go over to the ForestryForum and ask the same question. There are some top-notch foresters on there that love to discuss forest stewardship. You'll have to sign up, in order to post anything, but it is free, and painless. If you're really interested in forestry, you'll become a regular, there.
See ya there!
