Strange Penny

My son found this penny and so far the only thing we have been told is it "might" be a novelty penny which would explain the damage to the back of it.
It is silver in color like a nickle, dime or quarter, the only difference we can find is with the extra stamping on the face side and the smudge on the back side.
Anyone have any clue's? the sites on the web I've e-mail haven't been much help.

my parents had some in their coin collection i think that they might be worth something to a kennedy collector its kinda cool looking though but they are legal tender

Closest thing to that I've ever seen was a 1943 steel penny.

For years all pennies have been copper plated zinc...not very hard to reverse the electroplating process...

I have one attached to a card.
They were a novelty for the BiCentennial.
The card that mine is attached to lists all the similarities between Lincoln and JFK.

Think I also remember seeing them being sold in line at the 'Freedom Train'...

That one looks like a copper color. Did they come in both copper and silver color? Bob's penny is silver.

I guess if he had several, you'd be beter to get a few with that shipping, handling and insurance charge!

My guess is thet they did indeed come with and without the copper plating...it is fairly easy to remove electroplating...

I looked at the one I have and it is not the same...the one with the card I have has a bust of Kennedy facing the Lincoln on the penny...

I came across a strange one today
it is a 1987 d Lincoln penny with a Kennedy
Profile stamped in it. The profile faces Lincoln.
I know it is a fake just wondered who made it I have read the Postal comments about the Norris Pennies made back in 1973 4 but this is a much more current penny
