Friday afternoon, I picked up 375 pounds of nice lean steaks, roasts and burgers from the butcher shop. (Took one of my 18 mo old Jersey bulls in for slaughter.) When I got finished loading the freezer, I got a phone call from a dairy farmer I know. he had two jersey bull calves, was sick of feeding them and I could have em for free. They were four weeks old. The one I just took in cost me $25.00 and about $60 worth of feed. Butchering was $170.00. Thats still less than $1 a pound for beef, AND I know what it's been fed. ( no chemicals, etc)
