But that never stopped me very often in the past.
'Nother hot dry day here in the beautiful mountains of Noo Hampster. It sure is a great place to live and, by the looks of the touristas, thousands (even millions) also think it's a great place to visit. That's why our motto is
WELCOME TO NEW HAMPSHIRE. NOW GO HOME.

Cowboy Joe    Posted 08-11-2002 at 12:11:38       [Reply]  [No Email]
That ain't such a nice thing to say, is it?

Les    Posted 08-11-2002 at 13:33:45       [Reply]  [No Email]
It's a joke, Cowboy Joe. Sheesh, can't say anything without fear of offendin somebody. If it wasn't for touristas, NH would be as poor as....oh never mind. I'd prolly offend somebody.

Hey less...did you know new hampshire almost joined the confedercy during the civil war ? just learned that on a book review by the author on c span 2 .apparently it was thought they would because of their conservitive views .

Les    Posted 08-11-2002 at 13:31:05       [Reply]  [No Email]
That's a new one on me.
BTW, did you know that every Confederate state except South Carolina send regiments to the Union Army?
I hope you don't think that those of us up north (well, speaking for myself anyway) look down our noses at the south and southerners. I wouldn't mind living there except it's too dang hot! I ain't over fond of some of the varmints ya got down there either.
My son was born in Virginia.

bill b va    Posted 08-12-2002 at 00:00:26       [Reply]  [No Email]

The other posts sounds like they are talking about the same varmits. There are for sure some critters driving around. This past census time,I had one of the takers stop and ask me where I lived.I said I live right there in that log house and pointed at it.He scratched, sniffed and stammered a few times and asked me if that was where a neighbor lived.I said no it was where I lived and said that I was at a neighbors, but if he was a good neighbor himself,he would not be asking a neighbor about a neighbor's house cause this was a good neighborhood.Well I don't know if I helped him or not cause he up and drove right to my house and asked my wife if that is where I lived cause he was hunting my neighbor. So she figured that I might need to help him so she sent him back to the neighbors where I was at.Well it was worth gold ,the look on his face when I told him I was just a neighbor and I didn't live there. The poor feller left mumbling something about he would never take this $*(%)#@_%(* job again as long as he lived.Dang, you just can't help some folks.

Well wot about all you yankees coming to Florida every winter? (as I recall last winter u was one of them Les)

Les    Posted 08-11-2002 at 13:38:20       [Reply]  [No Email]
Hey Mudcat, what about that "Southern Hospitality" anyway? I get 90+% of the way to your place last winter and you can't even make it the remainder of the % to meet me. ";^)
By the looks of the license plates up here this time of year, Florida is second only to Massivetwoshutts for out-of-state plates on the road.

Same goes out here in Northern California only we call them all terriosts.
Them dern folks even talk funny, dress different and always have a camera hanging aroud their necks and boy do they ask some of the dumbest questions.
Its always nice when winter comes and the snow flies and they all run like the dickens.

Smitty    Posted 08-11-2002 at 09:48:18       [Reply]  [Send Email]
Momma Jan, what part of Northern Ca. I am in Plumas County and we have the same problem except we get the tourists money before they leave, lol

momma Jan    Posted 08-11-2002 at 14:26:29       [Reply]  [No Email]

Im in Portola and yes we do get the terriosts money befor they leave town :)
but they dont seem to be spending to much this year just about every one is 50% down atleast the small businesses which is most of town.
Dont we live in a wonderful area even tho.

Smitty    Posted 08-11-2002 at 16:37:14       [Reply]  [Send Email]
Momma Jan, I live in Canyon Dam near Lake Almanor, were across the county neighbors. Tourist business is about average here but drier than heck.

momma Jan    Posted 08-11-2002 at 23:29:57       [Reply]  [Send Email]
ahhhhhh Very nice area even tho its at the other end of the county.
I think you have a higher income of tourist up that way.
And it is dryer then all get out here too. Scares the heck out of me just thinking about fire.
If you ever get this way stop by for a coffee
~Jan

i live at the end of the road an all i have here is tourists asking questions on how to get back to town , where,s the road etc. in the winter all i do is spend my time pulling their motorhomes out of the snowbanks ,their trying to get to the ski hill , some how they think they can cross the river without a bridge, kinda makes ya wonder how they ever had the brains to make the money to afford the motorhomes ,lol later ger

Gerry the smart ones from the center of the universe always fit their motor homes with tire chains before they pass Kenora.

Grove r    Posted 08-11-2002 at 14:27:46       [Reply]  [No Email]
Just gotta share this with ya......'bout twenty some years ago, the road past my place was rebuilt, and being kinda outa the way as far as public goes, it took the MD a couple years to get all the signs back up......well one particular sunday, in the summer, we had twelve vehicles stop to ask for directions to a little lake back down the road, not a bad thing......but....this was during the course of eating dinner!!!! So....after dinner, I got me a piece of plywood about two feet by three feet and a 2X4, painted directions to the lake with an arrow, and drove it in the ground at the end of the driveway. Youd kinda think that would do it, wouldn't you?? nope!! then the dang fools were stopping in to ask if the sign was right........ya just can't win!!!! ;have a gooder,R.E.L.

ger    Posted 08-11-2002 at 14:37:41       [Reply]  [No Email]
when i moved in here back in 87 , they just had the road base in , i had a fellow dump a couple loads of drain rock well into my proprety for my septic field , well i came down after work to do some stuff an get ready for the backhoe the next day . heres this truck in here loading up my drain rock ,told me he thought it was a gravel pit, didn,t want to unload the truck either, after a bit of discussion he decided it was probably healthier to un load his truck, place was clearly marked as private but that didn,t seem to matter to him across the road on another place i seen him a couple of months later loading up top soil, i locked the gate till the big german gentleman got over an explaned to him the no no ,s off taking stuff that don,t belong to him . must of worked haven,t seen him around anymore later ger
