Pitless adapter o-ring leak

I had a well drilled about 6 years ago. The driller installed a 8" plastic well case. My pump is hanging 180' feet down in the 220' deep well. I recently started getting air in water my lines. I removed the cap on the well casing and listened as the pump started to fill the pressure tank. I could hear a hissing noise around my pitless adapter, about 4' below finish grade. I spent last saturday trying to pull the the adapter up above the top of the well case so I could replace the o-ring. Is there a secret to getting the adapter apart? I pulled on it with a 1200# rated come-along until I had so much tension on it I thought I was going to blow the side out of the plastic well casing. Any suggestions, tricks etc. are greatly appreciated. I am tired of having my shower head spit at me every morning!

find a well driller or plumbing repair with a boom truck, be in and out no time flat. some things best left for the pros.
