Baxter Black, Cowboy Poet, put on a show following our Square Dance Exibition at the WCHD. If any of you ever get a chance to see him perform it would well be worth your time. Also you can catch him on RFD-TV. Below is his picture with wiffy (President of our Square Dance Club).

You can hear Baxter Black's weekly poetry and "sage" commentary by tuning in to the Spirit of the West radio show originating from BC, Canada. Just go to my links page to the section on Listen to Western music.

Baxter Black is probably the most famous and best selling Cowboy poet on the cowboy poetry scene today. He's a graduate of the Colorado State Univ. Vet school.

He must realy strain His grub goin thru all that mop, recon He could save up a weeks worth'n nobody'ud ever know twas there.

Other'n that, He's My alltime favorite poet and writer of vast "wisdom'endowed" filosafee'n thats a fact. I have for many years subscrinbed to "FarmTalk" which is a tabloid of rather hefty proportions and the first thing I read is "Baxter Black". Some times frivolous, some times profound and on occasion extremly profound. He's a deep thinker and a comic all tied into one. I love His stuff.

BUT

Every rose bush has it's thorns as well as it's perfumed beauty. Unfortunatly He leans just a wee bit too far ta port ta be perfection.

That said, even tho Maw Hog says otherwise, When I walk on water I do sometimes sink up to My ankles.None of Us are perfect.

Not sure Mr. Black leans to the left. He's kind of anti-government, specially BLM and the Forest Service, which goes along with the majority of thinking around here. He's not to fond of envirmentals eithers.

Hogman** GLAD TA HEAR THAT    Posted 08-25-2002 at 17:41:15       [Reply]  [No Email]
That must mean theres hope in tha universe even yet.
He wrote a thing several years ago which was somthing like "and they called it balance" or some such. It was beautiful in a strange sort of way and so extremly true. About the tree huggers that took over the valley to protect it from those who had lived there for years to save it from polution. Those Folks moved to another valley and shortly the tree huggers found they had too much trash so took it over to the other valley and dumped it. Know I got it all bolexed up but sorta went like that.

Anyways He's My favourite rhymin critter. Have one of His tapes.

By gum, I knowed you was a quality fella!!! Around here, If it ain't in "Farm Talk" we don't believe it!! I always renew my subscription at the Four State Farm Show and get me a new cow stick for doin' it. I guess by this time ol' Baxter has been "Hollywoodified" some but I still enjoy him. You don't have to worry about ol' Milo Yield going to port.

Yep Gimp I've been takin it for several Years now, don't get any freebes tho,sub comes due befor tha Farm Fest at Empire in Springfield so I've already payed. I did brow beat ole Milo out of one of B.B.s tapes tho. He's acted surly towards Me ever since, don't know why.Oh well,I did'nt pull a gun on'im,just told Him it wer'nt fair not ta get a gift when was only a few days.

Ever see Mark Parker? He looks a lot like a pooped out Hippie,I've watched Him at several doins and He always looks like He sleeps through tha whole thing whilest I on tha other hand hang on every word and promptly forget. When tha paper comes He will have a big write up tellin all tha stuff as I have longsince forgot.
Maw says He must carry a tape recorder which would be OK cept sooner'er later He still has ta listen to tha whole thing. Anyway, His looks sure do defy His beliefs.

Hogman, what is this publication to which you refer?
I've seen a little of Baxter Black on RFD TV and it troubles me to hear that he "lists to port" like that. I thought he was an educated man.

Les the paper is a "local" thing, covers tha four corner area of Kansas,Oklahoma,Arkansas and Missouri, Strictly a farm publication but has some regular items and He is one of Them. Editorialy They print opposing view points which has nothing to do with "B.B."
I was somewhat shocked to find out some Years back that He tilted. It sneaks into His writing on occasion tho not too noticable ,meantime I just enjoy the mans writin.

He do have a gift, that's for a fact.
I've thought about tryin to get ahold of them Imus Ranch people and get him out there to the ranch for the kids and on the radio program but it'd prollaby be a waste of effort.
