Live in Jax,Fl have a pecan tree that grows big pecans, but the squirrels get most of them before they(pecans)are fully grown.
How can I stop the squirrels from destroy my pecan crope. My wife will not let me shoot them so that is out.

One word...Blowgun...    Posted 08-29-2002 at 13:50:06       [Reply]  [Send Email]
Practice with your new blowgun and some long needle darts...then silently pin them to the trunk from long distance and the wife will think that they are still alive...may take more than one dart to keep them in a lifelike pose...my kid still thinks those chipmunks are just reallllllyyyy good at sitting still... ;-)

Art, can the tree be reached from any other tree? Is the only access from the ground? If the only way they can get into the tree is from the ground then you can put a shield around the trunk. A sheet metal cone will keep them out of the tree. If they can enter the tree from another tree then you may be looking at the county's biggest squirrel feeder,,,
Good Luck
Ron

All I can think of is to build some kind of
baffle, like they do for birdfeeders...or put
corn on the ground for them.
