Hi to all, I was just searching on the web for pond maintenance and found you all!!!Reading some of the postings sounds like you all have alot of fun. I live in Roswell,New Mexico, and my husband ALLWAYS has projects he is building a pond!!So, I need info on what kind of plants, fish etc. that will help keep it in good neighbor thinks he's crazy for building it..with the West Nile thing going on. Any input would be appreciated!!God Bless, Lana

I'm new also :-)    Posted 08-31-2002 at 08:08:24       [Reply]  [No Email]
I found the site searching for a way to move our fridge to the new house in the mountains. We own one of those 250Ford van,the medium size, and it was either rent a pick-up or lay it down in the van.Well,my big beautifull hubbie, being the practical and 'problem-solver' he is decided to take it in the van with the precaution to follow the advices I got from the ppl here.It worked!!:-)
That was in July.So every time we have something to do that will need special Know-How I go in the search and get it done.Needless to say, this ppl are great but you really have to be very careful here with whom you hang out with...don't wanna mention any names here, you know...but guess that you could use some [Woman to Woman] advice; there's a certain Sherry?? and a New one...I think her name is something like Adios or maybe adieu?? not sure. Anyway Welcome Lana!!

Howdy and a great big ole welcome to Ya. When all else fails,,,,realy mabe tha best place ta start,Your Friendly NM State University Extension office. The seat of all knowledge and most of tha time some very good answers.
Another place would be tha local Soil'n Water office. Already mentioned was "gills'n critters" just make sure You don't snag on to a Federal agent or Natural resources type critter much less a body from indangered species or EPA pluss about a dozen others..........

Hi Lana, welcome!

How big a pond are you talking about? We've got quite a few years experience with small ornamental ponds with koi and goldfish--up to about 2500 gallons. If you're talking about a farm pond, mines been all dried up since I moved here and I guess I can't help.

good luck.

Welcome. I don't post here often. This is a great group just to read.

About your question. Might check with your local fins and fur department (State Fish and Wildlife). they should have some local information.

Can't help with the pond, but you may be able to help me with something...

Can I get up on your roof and look North to Groom Lake?
I will bring my own telescope, hibachi and hotdogs, so I won't be a bother...oh yeah...and I will keep the moving around at night to a minimum so as to let y'all sleep.

Good luck with the pond, and Welcome Aboard!

Les...fortunate, I would think that in Roswell    Posted 08-30-2002 at 12:25:43       [Reply]  [No Email]

Ha Ha, isn;t that the truth, those darn aliens. About seeing Groom Lake you probably need a satelite..not much water around here, thank ya'll for responding, Lol, Lana
Ps. I did see one man that is building bat boxes that house about 300 bats each..they come out at night and eat masquitoes by the 1000's..But like all the rest of our critters, they would probably be roosting in the house before too long!!haha

Well, we had a small pond with snakes so we..."I" decided since I was the ruler of the house for the week that if I could get all that old bush chunked in there and then let it dry out and catch the stuff on fire the snakes would be gone. The pond went dry during this dry spell... the other half "is" gone again for a couple of weeks we got a good rain "thanks" to Dennis so I decide today was the day to burn the brush...SHHHHH don't tell DJ but that was one of my worse mistakes (of many). Well, it is now 8:30pm which I stated this little idea at 6:00am and darn what a life I have had today :( all I can say DJ sure better be proud of me when he gets home at least the pond is cleaned out just full of ashes and I am a new color "smutty". And he just thinks the blonde dye hit my brain cells, but do not try this at home it is scary at times I am just glad the only thing around this hole and brush was a big tree that is much smaller now!..LOL have a great night and Holiday Weekend and stay away from fire....

Thanks to you all!! We have a well that will be infilling new a loader to take down all the brush around..put in a sprinkler system so we can plant grass instead of all the weeds around. We don't have any problem with snakes, we have ostriches out back, snakes do not like birds..I will check with the fish and game on what kind of fish etc. that we need. Hey, where is everyone from? Thanks for the big welcome...LOL, Lana
