I have a grown Rotweiller who was hit by some cars, and is recovering from a broken pelvis and hip (opposite sides of body).

Additionally, he seems to have a urinary infection, for which I need to give him penicillan injection. I was instructed to give him the injection "in the flank", however, this hurts him. I need an alternate location.....(Also, I warmed the syringe in my hand so the penicillan would not be cold.

The idea is to give it to him in the fleshiest part of his body. I was recently taught how to administer allergy shots (every day!) to my pooch, in the "scruff" of the collar. This is where moms pick up their pups. It's equivalent to our necks, and is very loose skin. The dog will feel nothing.

Good luck.

I have 3 dogs. My husband gives them their annual shots. This time, each dog got a large knot if the scruff of the neck. Why is this and how can we prevent it from happening again?

well for my pup I pulled the skin where the shoulder is and then gave him his shot there he recovered great, the weak area of skin right on the shoulder blade is the best place to give them shots, the area between the shoulder blades is very sensitive and you could even kill your dog, if ultimately you arent comfortable giving your dog a shot take it to the vet

you do not put the powder in the liquid, you draw the liquid, by inserting the needle through the top, then inject that into the powder, shake it up good, then draw it, for injection into the animal

You should have a Vet tell you how much and the type of Antibodic to use. If it has a infection and you use the wrong type it won't work and if you use to little it could make a strain that could require a bigger dose of something else to cure it. If your dog has a reaction it could also kill it to. Mark H.

i think it depends on the type on pencillin, we usually give it under the skin or intermuscular, depending on the type just give your vet a quick call ,or someone on here will be by shortly an will be able to help , later ger

hold the dog gently but firmly with his head and shoulders under your arm. so you are looking at the tail end of the dog, on the top of the dogs butt about 3 inches from the top of his/her tail you can insert the shot only the very tip of the needle needs to be applied. hope this helped?!? email me with any questions
