The skunk is under our shed and we saw him tonight. How do we kill him and keep our yard free of them after that? Please help!

Motomco Rampage,, it has to be motomco, use a piece of tie wire tied off @ floor level, spool the chunks onto the wire about 7-8 chunks, then bend the wire @ the end to keep them from taking it off of the wire, if they cant take it with them, they will fill up rather than leave it..

its a neuro toxin, not an anti cloting chem,, my cats have not eaten any yet, but dont know about dogs, nail a board leaned up to cover and protect from dogs.

Run a hose from your exhaust pipe from a car/truck or atv the
carbon monoxide will kill it quick, and its likely not to spray either

12 gauge works good.
Those rodent-killing smoke bombs would probably work too, if you don't have time to wait to actually see the thing in range. Use them per the package directions, then fill in the holes a couple days later so new ones don't move in.

Caution. This past summer in the papers I saw where a farmer tried to smoke out a groundhog and burnt his shed down.

We had a skunk under our storage building a while back. I had heard that if you threw mothballs under the building the skunk would leave. We did and it did. We haven't had any skunks since.

We saw this site and in an effort to rid our
property of a double white striped skunk, took
the advise posted here and dumped a box
and a half of Moth Balls under our lower level
deck. That was two days ago. IT'S BACK!!!
Guess that doesn't work. Any other ideas?

In my opinion the best method to dispose of a skunk is to use a 12ga shot gun. When you shoot a skunk in order to get little or no smell you have to sever the spinal cord and a 12ga stands the best chance of that. If you do get spray you can spray vinegar around to neutralize the smell.

I just killed a skunk a few hours ago by shooting it with a 22, but it
smelt really bad. but I have heard that if you drown it that it wont
stink.

story about picking them up by the tail,
And no don't even bother to ask!

DeadCarp    Posted 09-17-2002 at 18:51:52       [Reply]  [No Email]
That happens to folks around here in the Fall. In fact, i lifted one corner of the firewood pile's tarp and saw nuthin but tail one morning. (course, i put the tarp back pretty quick - doesn't take me long to look over a skunk:)
The best plan is to get them well out from under first, then use a 22 or something. One fella had to buy a Living Air unit after shooting one under his sauna. Oh they work, but they cost like $400.
Tomato juice gets rid of the smell. Good luck..

will rat poison kill a skunk? Shooting a firearm is illegal in my area, and vets won't sell the euthanizing solution. A professional is too expensive, and animal control will not come and get the animal. I live in hell. Please will someone tell me if rat poison will kill the little bugger!! email is numero-uno@hotmail.com
thanx

When I was stationed at Ft Devens Ma for a cuppla months back in 67, I had guard duty one night. Had to walk around some empty barracks and make sure no one stole them. About 2AM I got tired and bored and sat down of one of the wooden steps to one of the empty buildings. I sat there sorta holding up my head with my hands trying not to fall asleep and heard a rusting sound about 10 feet to my right. Thinking it might be some sort of an animal I stayed real still and glanced in that direction. There was a skunk walking towards me. He was too close for me to vamoose, so I sat there not breathing (mostly) wondering what I would do if I got sprayed whilst on guard duty.

I sat there as the skunk came over and sniffed each of my boots. Remember, I have my elbows on my knees and my head in my hands. This guy was about 18 inches from my face. I held my breath and thought that the sound of my hear beating was going to scare the guy into action. As I sat there he seemed satisfied that nothing was wrong and started to walk directly away from me. About 3 feet away, he stopped and I thought OH NO ! But he just turned around and stood on his hind legs and smelled the air. Then he walked right back towards me, stood on his hinds again and sniffed my face ! His sniffer was no more than 3 inches from mine !!! He then just calmly walked around the steps and went under them. I guess I was sitting on his house.

Anyhow, I split ! I could only imagine getting courtmarshalled for leaving my post covered with skunk ! Where would I go - - they sure wouldn't let me in my barracks ! Anyhow the saga of the skunk passed without incident. How or why I don't know. I guess I was just lucky !

Skunks have taken over our neighborhood. My dog has been skunked in our back yard numerous times. Yesterday I was leaving for work (I am a registered nurse who works 3am to 3pm) and there was a skunk on my front porch. It casuality strolled down the stairs and went under my husbands car. I was scared and stomped my feet and then ran for my car hoping it would not "skunk" me. My husband leaves while it is still dark our and I called him at 530am to tell him to watch out for the skunk as it crawled under his car. My poor dog suffered so much (so did the entire family from the smell). and I would like to make my back yard safe again.
Any suggestions would be great. My husband and I are animal lovers but when it comes to a skunk I don't see any way of placing it anywhere else. Skunks have NO enemies, its a fact.
Thanks for your time.
Kim

HI,
THERE ARE 2 WAYS THAT I KNOW OF TO GET RID OF A SKUNK FOR GOOD.THE CHEAPEST WAY IS TO BUY A BOX OF MOTH BALLS ,BECAUSE SKUNKS HATE THOSE AND WILL NORMALLY LEAVE WHEREVER THEY CAN SMELL THEM. ARE YOU SURE THAT THE SKUNK ISNT LIVING UNDER OR AROUND YOUR HOUSE? BE SURE TO PUT THE MOTHBALLS WHERE YOUR DOG CANT GET AT THEM, BECAUSE THEY ARE POISONOUS AND WILL KILL HIM, OR ANYTHING ELSE THAT EATS THEM.TRY THIS METHOD. IF THIS DOESENT WORK EMAIL ME AND ILL TELL YOU HOW TO KILL IT , AS A LAST RESORT. DANIEL.

What exactly should I do if he lives under my door steps in my backyard. There is a little opening to where he can come in and get out. But I don't think he wants to get out. The smell is soo bad, every morning it's the first thing you smell as you get out of the house. Where should you put the mothballs? How far from the skunk? and do you remove them after a while? As far as I know no human can get in there and I have no pets around. So please help pme out.

I just found out that my elderly parents have a skunk living under their shed, I was wondering how
you made out. We have their young grandchildren that
visit and are afraid that they will go near that ugly ALBINO SKUNK. Let me know if you have any answers.
