Speaking of outhouses

Some good many years ago I was boiling sap up to the sugar house and we'd had such a good run of sap that day that I had to stay well into the night. Along towards midnight the call of nature required my presence out in the Chic Sale two-holer so I grabbed the lantern and out I went.
After a few minutes of, uh, satisfying reverie, I thought I heard a noise down in the underneath portion of the necessary.
Taking the lantern, I held it up to see what was going on down there, and, son of a gun if there wasn't a skunk messing around.
Well I just hung that lantern right back on the hook and continued my reverie. I figured if he could stand it, so could I.

When you get a chance, read a little of Lewis Grizzard about Aunt Rodie and her visit to the outhouse. Got stung on the taint by Ginnie wasps. About near killed herself when her pink step-ins got tangled coming out of there.

Years ago, there was an old feller in town who kind of fell upon some hard times and was well in arrears on his taxes. One of the selectmen paid him a visit to impress upon him the gravity of the situation. "Levi", says the selectman, "if you don't pay your taxes by Friday, we shall have to take the necessary steps."
Says Levi, "You kin take the whole dam necessary if you've a mind to."
