We are good for the community because we pay high prices for cheap land; we build big houses and out buildings and that's good because we frequently use local materials and labor. We pay high taxes, on everything we own. We buy lots of compact tractors and riding mowers. We get on various boards and improve the community. And lots of other things, too like taking a badly needed leadership role in local activities. Next time you see a Yuppie buy him/her a cup of latte and say "thanks."

Someone is full of themself. Did you everthink maybe the community was fine before you showed up. Somethings don't need fixed. You want to live out in the country you need to earn the right to live out here, like a lot of these farmers did. They survived things that would make you turn tail and run in a heartbeat. Just remember, "No Farmers, No Food"

LET ME TELL YOU YUPPIES WHAT YOU DO.........FIRST OF ALL, YOU'VE ALL BUT RUINED THE APPALACHAIN MOUNTAIN REGION. THESE MOUNTAIN PEOPLE AND THEIR "CHEAP LAND," HAVE BEEN SCROUNGING A PEACEFUL EXISTANCE AND LIVING (NOT ON THE GOVERNMENT BY THE WAY) FOR DECADES, AND YOU ALL HAVE COME IN AND BOUGHT UP NEARLY ALL THE "CHEAP LAND," AND HAVE TURNED IT INTO A DANGED TOURIST ATTRACTION AND RUINED IT'S NATURAL BEAUTY AND PRACTICALLY DESTROYED A WAY OF LIFE FOR A CULTURE OF FOLKS THAT HAD SOMETHING TO OFFER THIS COUNTRY. AND........MR. OR MRS. YUPPIE, YOU HAVE MADE IT DARNED NEAR IMPOSSIBLE FOR THEM TO CONTINUE TO MAKE THAT LIVING HONESTLY OFF THE LAND BECAUSE OF YOUR COMMERICALIZATION AND COMMERCE THAT NO LONGER WANTS TO BUY THEIR LOCAL PRODUCE AND CATTLE BECAUSE THEY CAN GET IT CHEAPER FROM YOU CROOKS AND YOUR FOREIGN MANUFACTURES. YOU CAN KISS MY BEHIND AND BARK AT THE MOON. I'LL BUY YOU COFFEE ALRIGHT, AND I'LL DUMP IT HOT IN YOUR LAP........... YOU ALL HAVE RUINED MY BEAUTIFUL MOUNTAINS...........

Jim (Mi)    Posted 10-07-2002 at 08:05:57       [Reply]  [No Email]
How ironic. And let me guess, farm land is not ruining the landscape. Let's ask Native Americans if 1000 acres of corn and crops is better the 1000 acres of virgin wooded area. Like I always say, if you do not want someone buying up the land and doing what they want with THEIR land, buy it yourself, and do whatever YOU want with it.

Jim (Mi)    Posted 10-07-2002 at 10:20:39       [Reply]  [No Email]
That's funny, last year I got plowed into by a local drunk pulling into my driveway. Guess that farmer could not see two sets of brake lights and a set of back-up lights at 8:00 in the evening. He decided to go around my wife (thank god) and barrel into my truck immediately behind my door at about 40 mph on our gravel road. Said he was suprised there were two trucks and stepped on the gas instead of applying the brake. Let's all sit and tell our happy stories how farmers are the moraly just and right, and the city folk are to blame for all of lifes problems.

Bandit    Posted 10-07-2002 at 12:01:23       [Reply]  [No Email]
You shouldn't cus the farmer with your mouth full.

magpie    Posted 10-06-2002 at 09:03:13       [Reply]  [No Email]
Mr. Proud Yuppie sir,
You are welcome in this area (the kootenay region of B.C.) We have to offer a vast forrested mountianous area, lots of pristine lakes, mild climate, probably some of the cleanest air in North America, excelent skiing, golfing, hunting, fishing, ect. and very reasonable land prices. Why I am saying this is, because, it is not really a farming area, I, of course would like to see the land prices rise so I can sell and go where I want.

ger    Posted 10-07-2002 at 08:59:03       [Reply]  [No Email]
you of course are speaking for youself when you say what your saying. i too live in the kootenay region of b.c. an i have had enough of the arrogant types that are moving in here have no intrest in anything or anybody other than themselves an creating a playgroung for themselves, destroy peoples property ,way of life etc. all in the intrest of recreation , go back to where ever they come from after the holidays are over , leave their un attented homes an expect us to watch out for them until they return again, to complain about the smells , noise , etc . that farming creates, you claim that the kootenays aren,t a farming area well when you live in a mountainous area an have fertile valley bottoms an land is limited , you had better protect what farming area there is ,once its gone an when you sell off yours to become a yuppie an have to complain about farming in your new area , that you have moved too don,t complain about the costs or qualitily of the food you have to feed your family

Alberta Mike    Posted 10-05-2002 at 20:31:21       [Reply]  [Send Email]
There were times in the past when I defended the Yuppies and said that a lot of the country folk were a bit prejudiced against them. After reading your post I think I'm gonna retract all that previous stuff I said. Actually, you're not really a yuppie because a real yuppie isn't stupid enough to post such rubbish.

Sid    Posted 10-05-2002 at 19:25:34       [Reply]  [Send Email]
I always wondered who was driving up land prices so young fellows have a hard time getting land to farm. You do not think that farmers pay HIGH taxes on everything they own? I may be a hick I am a volunteer fireman and I think that helps my community. Some of us get along so well we know what to do with out a leader. If it needed so much improvement why come here in first place? Find a nice place that does't need so many commitees and improvements and spend some time with family on front porch instead of minivan. Sorry but no thanks

bill b va    Posted 10-05-2002 at 16:09:37       [Reply]  [No Email]

my experince is they are a bunch of A holes that want to be something that they can never be .if they are so dam smart why do want to be like us down to earth common sense people and then want to change our ways to suit theirs. i suspect they are rejects from the cities and move to the country to try and find some one they can feel superior to .too bad they are still shutt heads

Yuppie Too    Posted 10-05-2002 at 14:33:34       [Reply]  [No Email]
You're right! I guess I qualify as a yuppie because I have worked hard to get an education and a professional Job. People on sites like this like to make fun and are a little jealous, too. Well I have a very nice house on 18 acres with lots of white fence, a big barn, a very nice antique tractor that I take to shows, two registered Quarter Horses, dogs and a very good life. My kids go to private schools. Oh and I drive a Range Rover and a BMW and I have a Kubota compact tractor. Hope you enjoy your beat up old trucks and your falling down farmsteds.

Bandit    Posted 10-07-2002 at 12:06:47       [Reply]  [No Email]
I'd take the falling down farmstead over all that other stuff.

Cowboy Joe    Posted 10-05-2002 at 22:01:14       [Reply]  [Send Email]
Just because I was born in NYC that doesn't make me a Yuppie. I think Yuppie is mostly a state of mind. Although I have an Ivy League graduate degree in psychology and hold a professional position as a psychotherapist, I identify more with the Western lifestyle, music and culture than with whatever a Yuppie is supposed to be.

still better than you . some things money can't buy .

Welcome to my neighborhood, Ron/PA    Posted 10-05-2002 at 14:22:38       [Reply]  [No Email]
I love having yuppies move into the valley, you come in and buy rock farms at top dollar, you increase land prices (cause if you are willing to pay that price, some other fool will pay that for mine)
You try to serve on local government but you just can't stand putting up with us hicks, so you resign and walk away.
You try to change the local laws regarding farming and flies, stink, and noise, but when you show up at the council meetings, there sit 5 of 7 board members who are farmers and you kind of wilt away!
Please continue to ride my road and stop to ask If I would consider selling my property, I love the look on your face when my wife tells you "you can't afford it" and if you ever offer me enough to buy it, I will buy a farm that you could have had and missed.
Welcome yuppie neighbor, and feel free to stop by for a coffee or beer any time you are in the neighborhood. If the rotty doesn't bother you I will take you up to see the bear den right behind the house.
Ron
