When we were kids fooling around with sticks or BB guns, my mother would always yell at us and she would always say,
"you won't be happy 'til you put someones eye out"
So now I figgure I wanna be happy, sooooo does that mean to be happy, I gotta put someones eye out?????
(searching for true happiness)

I remember shooting a bb gun as a kid it richoted about 10 time and binked me in the forhead - a little shocking to say the least

I always run my chipper with glasses on and a rock it squarely in the center of the glass

Neighbor lets his 8 year mow the lawn with rocks and sticks and everything barefoot....

His comment to me was he would feel real bad if something happened to him...

Knew a guy who took one of his kids eyes out with a rider mower - the discharge sent a rock out the kids was 10 feet away

No laughing matter. I was cleaning some brush from a fence line when I got a twig end right in the center of my right eye. Had a retinal hemmorage which required laser surgery, and left me with no central vision in that eye. I wear my safety glass all the time when working now. Wish I had back then.

Yeah, our parents and grandparents had those sayings, didn't they? Wrecklessness, doesn't
lead to happiness, usually misery, trouble, etc.
Then there are those sayings about happiness--Happiness is like a butterfly, it comes and lands on us, when we least expect it. (something like that).
I am one of those who wants to go searching for it, instead of having the patience to wait for it.

That was a comment that was very prevalent in our family, too...."keep playin' around 'till someone puts an eye out"! Well, I dang near fell of my chair when one of the grand kids came out with the reply. "yeah, then it becomes a sport"! What next? Have a gooder, R.E.L.
