I refer to the sort of dusty-looking, yellow-footed paper-wasp whose nest vaguely resembles an upside-down poppy made of brown paper. I've seen them prey on tent-caterpillars. I know that if you can co-exist with the paper-wasp, yellow-jackets tend to stay further from your house.
The other evening I was wearing all the wrong colors (blue-jeans, black shirt) and I saw a mosquito suddenly change her mind about paying me a visit. I'd been standing just over an arm's length from one of the nests of my resident wasps. I can think of no other reason for a mosquito to to depart at flank speed and not come back. Is that species of wasp among the mosquito's natural enemies? RKBA! Regards, all
