Sperm Quality Poorer in Rural Men

By Kathleen Doheny
HealthScoutNews Reporter

MONDAY, Nov. 11 (HealthScoutNews) -- Men who live in rural parts of the United States have poorer sperm quality than men in urban areas, a new study contends, and farm pesticides may be to blame.

Males in Columbia, Mo., had lower sperm quality than men in New York City, Los Angeles or Minneapolis, says lead researcher Shanna Swan, an epidemiologist and research professor of family and community medicine at the University of Missouri, Columbia.

The study appears in the November issue of the journal Environmental Health Perspectives.

It's nice to know that we men in the Big Apple have potent sperm.

Why did we have to pay to study something that is so obvious?

Sorry, can't let this one get by----Fact is males that are more "active" have lower s---- counts than males less active. Just ask any farmer that has handled a lot of cattle.
P.S.
Whats the divorce rate in Colombia,Mo. compared to New York and L.A.

Maybe it's only in Columbia, MO. I haven't noticed anyone testing out here, and it sure as heck hasn't stopped people from getting pregnant in any rural area I've seen. Maybe the good old country boys with lower sperm counts just have straighter shooters. I could include words about cities like drive-bys, gang wars, higher drug usage, higher incidence of AIDS and the word evolutionary survival (but hey maybe they just need to make more to have people reach adulthood). Is there a big chemical/industrial company out there in Columbia how about big power lines? It's kind of hard to accept that result for all rural areas of the US just because the guys around Columbia, MO shoot off the occasional dud missle.

Funny thing, I live in Missouri, and they didn't test the sperm of any of my friends or relatives! There's something fishy here.

Only reliable crops around here are kids & rocks :) - and we're darn proud of our rocks!

I'll remind my grandaughters they're safer around Columbus - honest to gosh, sometimes they act as silly as guys! At any rate you won't need a t-shirt to remind you - you'd better be an accomplished rider if'n ya plan for 8 seconds on a local mare! :)
