well as I've said before, I built a nice big home out in the country, in a little township that is great.....I mean "was" great. The new township board is killing the township. they are turning it into one of those richy townships, as I post this they are ousting the firechief and the assistant firechief.....the last of the "good ole boys" that kept this nice little town, little and nice. tomorrow night at the township meeting they are bringing to it 174 pages of new township ordinances. Some of the ones that will affect me are, absolutely no businesses can be run out of the home, no outdoor funaces that produce smoke, if you want to split your land for any reason, they will tell you how. 174 pages, I can only begin to imagine what is in it.
7 of the township office workers have already quit because of what is going on. the only thing I have going for me is I am the last house to the township line, maybe they won't bother me?!?!
I will be attending tomorrow nights meeting. Last night there was a meeting called to fire the firechief and the assistant, over 200 people showed up to defend them, and demanded to know why they were being fired, the board wouldn't comment, and they said they are asking a state police officer to investigate the situation, the officer doesn't even know what he is investigating. He said that he will take any comments from anybody about the situation. ???? and he doesn't even know what the situation is. does that make any sense?
I moved out here to get away from all of this beauroctatic stuff, and it found me.

Any ideas ?????

If it's turnin in to a "richy" township then you ought to be able to sell your place for a tidy sum and find better company elsewhere.

Boss, yer a long ways from alone with that problem. Round here it's like a land race fer people try'n to out run suburbia. Bout the only way a person can get away from it is to live too fer away to commute back and forth to work. As far as the socializing of the country I aint sure if them people are socialists when they come out or turn to socialists after they get here. My opinion is (I am standing on ma preachen box now) that most of them turn to socialists after they get here. Reason being that the biggest percentage of them, A-can't realy afford to spend what they spent to live out here and B- That causes them to look at their place as an investment, not a home. Then when thier neighbor wants to add a tar paper shed fer his pigs or part out a pickup truck in the side yard they git all excited bout their dang property values and start march'en down to the township house to raise cain bout it. Thens you git enough of them around so they make up the majority, they run fer office, git elected and yer country life is done for. Myslf, I plan on putt'n up with their sorry a$$es until I can retire. Then I goen to sell my places and move where it gits colder than heck in the winter and aint no jobs. Aint many socialist problems in places like that but ya better have yer liven made for ya go.

Sorry to be so late here in responding BUT,

We had basically the same goings on here, just to the north of me (1 mile). There is a strip of land on each side of US 41 that is County. Now the mayor of Hanson and his cohorts voted to give themselves a doubling in salary. Then they decided that everyone who is on the Hanson water system needed to be cannexed into the city. They threatened to raise the water rates for those not living inside the city limits, and had a meeting about it. About 50 people showed up, nme included, and we were given a chance to discuss and ask questions about the annexation. Well it would take a vote. It wasn't on the ballot this year, nor wil;l it be next year. All the incumbents were voted out of office on Nov 5. We cleaned house, and are starting over. Every one of the new ones werer at the meeting and all voiced their objection to the annexation. The past Mayor wanted to get the city larger, so to be classified as a higher rating, then he could tax the wages of the employees of the newly opened Veterans Nursing Home, have the rural areas pay for a new sewer system the city needs (immediately according to the State inspectors) by having us connect to it. Now this would involve about 300 homes and businesses streched out over a 6 mile strip (in length) and approx 4-5 miles wide.

Anyhow that problem got resolved for now and the old Mayor didn't get to build his empire.

Every time I meet him in resturants or shopping he calls me a rabble rouser and agitator. HHhhmmm Wonder why?

Look to buy more land further out, specifically look for property that is appraised with the following statement... "Future development unlikely"

I don't know Boss, sounds like the Columbia Gorge Commission Flu. Number one rule - never move to a beautiful location that is accessible by normal means ie car, boat, plane. Someone with money will see it and want to turn it into a park that burns down in five years. I think I now live too far away from anything but everyonce in a while someone drives by see's my view and wonders why we should have it when they don't. Just don't keep your mouth shut!!! Contact other neighbors that feel the same way you do, design a petition, and sue them individually as a large group of citizens. Contact your county commissioners and see if they are on your side. Contact your state senators, the attorney general in your state, demand to see the laws allowing them to change local laws and if they are doing it ALL on the up and up, sometimes you can find a little loophole that they missed and hoped everyone else would miss. This kind of group dictatorship is usually caused by just a few people while the majority isn't even aware of what is going on until it is too late.

DeadCarp    Posted 11-13-2002 at 05:51:03       [Reply]  [No Email]
Who publishes the local paper? Talk to them, you'll need them. If the publishers like the way things are going, thank them & drive right to the next nearest paper and keep going til you find a friendly ear. Local papers shape opinion and there's no getting around that. But remember they compete too. :)

What you'll also need is a referendum, where anything that's about to affect the residents has to survive a ballot vote first. The county can whap the tar outa a township if their britches get too big, so make sure they know what's going on. No, no group of citizens can come in and "adjust" a township to suit their whims, no way.

Larry    Posted 11-12-2002 at 22:43:39       [Reply]  [Send Email]

Who voted these idiots onto the board in the first place? I hear this kind of complaint all the time. When I ask who voted for these people no one really even remembers that they even voted in the first place. If you want things to run smoothly in your community you got to make sure you get ivolved in the board meetings. Just don't sit at home and think things will be taken care of for you, because they won't be unless you show up,and voice your opinions. Not just when something like this happens. I'm not pointing my finger at you alone. Just the ones that let this sort of thing happen.

Well Boss, watcha' gonna do? It sounds like Ralley time. If 200 showed up in support for the firechiefs, then there are more who couldn't make it, and they are all likely feeling the same as you.
Submit, or fight. Your choice, you rights.

ger    Posted 11-12-2002 at 19:28:03       [Reply]  [No Email]
its happining everwhere , i,ve been fighting the near by town for 20 years , they want to annex us , easy to develope farm land already flat an cleared , easy for them to put in sewer an water an sell the lots an tax the heck out of everybody , they don,t care about anybody,s rights or anything else ,the local ski hill has turned this place into a tourist trap an it went to heii in a hand bag, an they are all after the almighty dollar, nothin else matters.

Ana    Posted 11-13-2002 at 05:42:31       [Reply]  [No Email]
ger is right. It's happening here too--I thought we were moving way out into the country, but, no, the city came to us. At least our place is worth a lot of money, I guess, but I was hoping not to move again. Maybe you can fight the fight and give us folks out here some hope. I'm afraid I'm guilty of sitting here enjoying my acres and letting things happen. Good luck to you!

nuthin there to offend me Uncka Hog

Our local and county gubermint is all conservative except one county judge and one JP.

They've zoned in every kind of pollution exemption for the oil comps and refineries while at the same time we have new pollution ordinances on car, trucks, and farm vehicles to include off road trucks and tractors.

GOD bless that demogog judge for so far he has either killed the ordinance against individuals or chosen not to enforce the ones he can't strike down.

It's kinda strange to me that the same conservatives of my district voted in ordinaces to allow 2 hazard waste dumps and one hazardous waste deep well injection site and a hazard products incinerater but they don't want my wore out tractor to smoke in the fields.

The people have rallied and have kept the 2 hazardous waste dumps out but we got stuck with the incinerater and deep well with the help of our county judge.

He also kept the treehuggers from gettin new animal laws and out lawing outside smokers.

Here it's mostly a group of radical liberal damnacrats that I think advertise Nation wise for more like thinkin morons ta move here and bless Us with Their idea of how folks should live "BY THEIR " rules. They are named for a certain body of water hence My thought that may be tha source.
Since most of Texas I have been in is "cursed" with that tasty mineral water,"GYP" mahaps it creates a reversed brain syndrom situation.

OR; mahaps tha "rule'n regulate'em" bug just flits from place ta place bitin anybody as is in a position ta hatch stupid plans. I dunno.
I just wish they'd all go away, where ever or what ever they are!

Burrhead    Posted 11-13-2002 at 16:18:52       [Reply]  [No Email]
what bothers me around here is that folks come in from every political and religion worldwide and start wanting to "regulate" any and ever thing cause they know 1st hand it would be better for us native morons to have new & improved conditions.

If all the rules and regs were so good why don't they just go back and enjoy them where they come from????

Thanks to yuppies coming out here whining about irregular garbage pickup days, we don't have any trash trucks. Now we get to pay for a sticker for every vehicle that we haul our own garbage to the dump with.

I personally think overbearing know-nuthin yuppies run rampant in every political and/or religious sector.

Hogman******* Cousin Burr I agree.    Posted 11-13-2002 at 17:48:47       [Reply]  [No Email]
To quote a fine member of tha US Congress that used ta have this district when presented some wonderful new law etc His normal comment was " if it's so great how come We've survived all these years without it?" I liked that man.

Hmmm, sounds like the parties reverse somewhere tween here and there but I know wat ya mean bout them waste dumps Burr, they send contaminated soil from here all the way down there. Never could figger out how burnen contaminated soil in Texas was better for the viroment then burnen it in Ohio cept it be'en better for Ohio's viroment. Just don't seem right plus some insider trucking outfit gets rich hauling it down there. Next time we send a load of PCB dirt down yer way I'll hide a can of STP ta halp you out with the tractor trouble.

Burrhead    Posted 11-13-2002 at 17:35:51       [Reply]  [No Email]
LMAO yeah it gets kinda funky. Texas takes in hazardous from up north and burns it, then what's left we ship to Loosyanner and they landfill it.

Years ago I worked for a disposal bunch and all we did was ship from Houston area to Loosyanner to another place owned by the same bunch.

They got $3 per mile to haul it plus $100 per hour to load and unload it, plus the disposal fee.

It was'nt nuthin for the freight to run $2500 to $3500 on a load plus $10,000 to dispose it.

Bottom line was that as soon as the paper trail could be confused enuff the oil was filtered and sold to the state to burn in electric plants or to cement companies to fire off the cement plant.
