Turkey day traditional side dishes

Nearly everyone has turkey on Thanksgiving, but what traditional side dishes do you have in your part of the world.
My Mother -in-law, from New Jersey, insists on creamed baby onions, Yechhhh! She also eats her pumpkin pie with a slice of cheddar cheese

We Pa Dutch usually make a mashed potato and sausage stuffing.

In my family, we break out the first home made date/nut bread of the season. (kind of like a cross between a molasses cake and a fruit cake.) It is usually only made from thanksgiving through New Years.

When I lived in Virginia, the lady next door always made sweet corn bread muffins with blueberries, cranberries and apple.

Morning everyone!
I try to add a new recipe every year, but traditionally we have turkey with sage stuffing, glazed ham, mashed potatoes, creamy gravy, fresh baked bisquits, steamed dilled carrots, salad, candied yams and apple pie made with fresh picked apples from the local orchards.
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanks Giving, and have many things to be Thankful about!

Good Morning screminghollow:
I love onions so I would let your Mother-in-Law insist that I should try them.
Pumpkin Pie with a slide of sheddar? don't know. But the mashed potato with sausage stuffing sounds great!
The date/nut bread sounds tasty. But the word 'molasess' has a new meaning on this board; won't go there.
I would take your Thanksgiving's dishes any day.

Now, in my part of the world the side dishes are mainly gren pegeon peas stew rice or pork stew rice, potato salad, pork sausage. My family will always have cheese flan for desert.

molases is a great thing, aside from pure home made cane syrup, it's my favorite. It goes in my bowl of oatmeal every morning, in my deer jerky and just last Friday nitht, I added some to a jambalya. ROCK ON.....

Where you at Woodstock? I was only 13 at the time but would have loved to have been there.

Is the syrup dark or light colored?
What's 'jambalya'?

I were not at Woodstock [grin], I was 14y/o and my mom and dad wouldn't let me flight to Chicago to go with my cousins[grin II]. They were driving to NY. Guess I was way tooooooo young, I understand now, but I gave a big fight then.

Cane syrup is dark but not dark as molases. Jambalya is a rice and meat dish prepared by the people of soutnern Louisiana. It typically contains a monumental amount of onions, and lesser amounts of bell peppers, bananna peppers, celery, hot peppers, (I add oregano in mine) salt, pepper both black and red, thyme, and parsley. Lots of people make it with chicken and sausage, I prefer mine with pork, deer and only hickory smoked pork sausage. or a good smoked deer sausage.

I think jambalya is similar to what I call in english stew rice. We have several recipes for it; with chicken or pork, sausages, any kind of beans, whatever you can mix in, meatwise would be one cut at a time or all mixed in, like a paella.
And all the seasonings you mentioned and then some more. But not hot, unless you add yourself to your serving , a homemade hot vinegar.

Mashed Sweet potatos with crushed pecans mixed in baked in a cassarole dish with egg and brown sugar. And never never forget two to three pecan pies and at least one container of ice cream. Our house has been the gathering ground for Thanksgiving dinner for the last 19 years. I think it's because my wife's such a good cook and gracious hostess.

yea vanilla too, Bea(wife)says not too much and add it lastly just before putting dish in oven. I'll get the full blown details at home this evening and will email them to you.
