Homemade toys?

I was just remembering homemade toys - can't think of them all but we liked making a t-stick to push barrel hoops around the yard. It was kinda like using a yoyo - when you got good you could stand still and steer it with some degree of precision. We'd race to the mailbox with them.
Also, wish i had the recipe for how big to make the notches and propellor for those ruler-based "airplanes" we used to rub with pencils and the prop would spin from vibrating.
What were your favorite old toys? :)

I used to love making 'caps'...the kind that go bang when struck with a rock or hammer...

Will not give the instructions here for doing it, but my Mom still wonders where all the kitchen matches went...

A little tinfoil, FOOSH, yeah, they really go ay? heh heh
I ruined a brandnew BB gun once - we ran out of BBs, it was raining and cake decorations were about the same size -- Gummed that poor thing up so bad, no amount of soaking would bring it back! :)

We did the 'rockets' too, but the 'caps' were spent .22 cases (Hee Hee)...

And trust me here...NEVER show a kid how to make a marble canon...Those Aggies would be worth a small fortune now if they weren't spread in a quarter mile radius of Moms house...

Amazing we lived through childhood with what was just accepted as 'boys being boys'...

Meccano, erector set was the best DC. Now you must be thinking Christmas and have some kids to buy for on your list. Why not give them a 2 day head start and just get them the boxes the toys come in, thats what they get the most fun out of.
Later Bob
