I can see it now....
my husband and I have worked our asses off to move to our little peice of heaven. I'm not blind I see the two of us in the mirror every day, I know how we look. I can see it now as we are unloading our "new" used truck with four used tires and none of them brothers and the stearing wheel in the seat cause it fell of again. our lovley new neighbor as he sees us.
takes his hat off slams it into the ground and screams at no one " GAWD Dammit those damn tree huggin hippies bought the ole jones Farm" Kicks the ground and stomps to the house muttering things I'm sure would burn his mothers ear if she heard them.

Hhhmmmm I smile just thinking about it.

I've been known to hug a tree or two too! Some of them have been part of my landscape and life for as long as I can remember. There's lots of memories in those old trees too. I choose to farm around them instead of cutting them down, out of respect for their bravery and tenacity, surviving everything nature threw at them for over half a century - many for much longer than that, 'cause they were mature trees when I started remembering them. I's heart breaking, like loosing a friend, when they do succumb.

That HAS happened Jennifer and it's hilarious when it does - or somebody overhears a new neighbor cussing somebody out, and when they're all done, the listener says "Oh him? He's my cousin" Part of the appeal of small towns - you can't get away with anything! :)

BTW, if one of your elders EVER asks whether they should spend the money on something new, or just get a "decent used one", do your level best to talk them into a "brand new, nobody else's problems" thing! Tell them they deserve it, lie all you need to! I failed that test several times already, some 10 years ago, and now i have 2 rusted-out piece-of-crap, hand-me-down pickups, a wood-splitter and mower that need motors, and a shedful of leaf-blower parts to show for it! Boy, some people learn slow don't they? :)
