Why aren't we tearing each other apart?

We're glorified beasts, okay? Dysfunctional, secretive, cunning beasts, plain and simple. So how do we get along atall? It takes an earthquake or lightning to turn a stampede, more than that do delay a feeding frenzy. What's so distracting?
I reckon if poor people are nicer, then debt must be a factor. If millions can commute every day without getting naked and screaming, traffic is a pretty powerful distraction too. I just marvel that human beasts are so obedient. What big calming force am i overlooking? :)

The knowledge that somewhere in the universe there is a guiding force.......ah, crap, it's Tylenol.

"Everybody nowadays, believes in scores of assumptions for which
there is good evidence, but no perfect visual proof. And does not
science demonstrate that visual proof is the weakest proof? It is
being constantly revealed, as mankind studies the material world,
that outward appearances are not inward reality at all."

i fought the traffic to get to work every day. fifty miles one way for years i met the same people in the same car at the same place every day the calming efect was that i was not the only
one headed for the back stabbing rat race but the scars on my back have healed well.
our mountain retirement home is our calming influence now

Uh, you might be a "glorified beast" but I'm not! I have faith that there is a higher power guiding us. Some choose to listen, some choose not to. Living in the country and hard work makes me feel that much closer to Him.

I dont fight traffic every day anymore but when I did I fought the urge to get naked and scream all the time! I think its more of a distraction rather than a calming factor. Our individuality is stronger than our herd instinct

Well i'm sure glad you don't have to fight the urge to get naked and scream anymore - what a relief ay? lol

Not sure if our individuality is stronger than our herd instinct though - but i'd like to try it. If i had mine to live over, maybe i'd go for power this time. Become the alpha male!:) You could order whole tribes of people wiped out and use somebody else's money to pay the assassins, then hold a press conference in front of a church. You'd get a good salary & free taxes, then they'd make million-dollar offers to write your memoirs. You could even let your oil barons hire servants to bully the UN - that must be gratifying! And every 4 years you could promise the workers prosperity & they'd gladly buy your dinners and flop sponsor-bought banners with your name on them! Ahh, it don't get much better than that, does it? The bad part is - no matter how well i lied, half the people would disagree! That's alright, after hogging the whole street in fleets of bulletproof limos, i'd probably dream of a simple life with just traffic and debt anyway. :)
