What is the correct way to hang a toilet paper roll ???

My wife always gives me a bad time because when I add a new roll of toilet paper, I hang it with the loose flap of paper in towards the wall. She likes it coming over from the top on the outside. I realize it's not a big thing but who's right on this thing?

DJ    Posted 07-04-2004 at 10:19:47       [Reply]  [No Email]
After many years in the military and visiting the White House, it is requires that the "Tounge" hang behind the roll, against the wall. Presents a more asthetic view and the prior user's hanging leftovers remain unseen as they would from the front. This is also applicable in the "House of Commons" and "Parlement". As for my house, I wind up picking through the trash for anything usable 'cause my empty headed kids leave only the remnants still attached to the roll by the glue.

It goes whichever way she puts it on.

Where's the TP dear? I'm out!

Mike, I really like the flap on the outside, but I seem to be in the minority o0n this issue! Wife and both boys like it the otherway! I change it my way, boys are to lazy to change it back again!

Ann Landers allowed this can of worms to be opened in her column a few years back - never did reach a conclusion...... Long's there's a roll there when you need it, be happy!

The proper placement of the bathroom tissue (new politically correct name) is with the end hanging over the top of the roll. In a house with small children, you MAY deviate from this method, but with the understanding that as soon as said children are old enough to learn not to unroll all bathroom tissue into the toilet and LAUGH, placement will revert to the correct placement. The only other acceptable variance is when there is a double roll holder. In the case of a double roll holder, one roll MUST be placed with the flap to the wall, or else both rolls unroll at the same time, and then must be re-rolled, thus lending a MESSED-UP look to the paper, which causes no one in the house to ever use that roll (EEEEW, SOMEONE TOUCHED ALL THAT TOILET PAPER (oops, I mfean Bathroom Tissue).

Just to let you know, women hang rolls with paper to the wall, and men hang paper over the roll.

jonna    Posted 02-06-2004 at 20:57:17       [Reply]  [Send Email]
these ar all well and good "guidlines" but does anyone know what ms.manners would say?? Or can anyone give me any hard facts on why or is it all based upon preference????

felicia    Posted 11-03-2005 at 17:49:11       [Reply]  [Send Email]
I just wanted to say that this is a hilarious subject. I was taught by my mother and grandmother that the end should always hang over the roll. I am a manager at a restaraunt and my staff always teases that there is no, "right way" to hang the long as you can get what you need, who cares! Well I still live by my rule that, "end over," is the correct way!

Tigger    Posted 05-06-2006 at 21:17:24       [Reply]  [Send Email]
My belief is this: if the roll is higher than eye level when seated the paper should be against the wall (easier to see it), if the roll is lower than eye level, when seated, it should be over the top of the roll (again easier to see it). Of course, the most import thing is that tp exist somewhere in the stall!

I can remember one of my kids was a "yanker"
when they got their TP. Whatever way I was hanging it, there was the TP unrolled at great
lengths all over the floor. So, for a while,
I turned it around in the opposite direction to
prevent that from happening so much, and to save
on TP. Sorry, can't remember which way that was!

Just let 'em win on the little things so you can hold out for the really important leaving the seat up! :-)

Spence, never makes it to the holder.    Posted 12-16-2002 at 20:41:21       [Reply]  [No Email]
With the number of folks in my place, it never makes it to the holder. Never mind how to hang it, how do you keep it from rolling into the bowl.?

Heard some rollers come with music activated
when it's rolled!. At my place, they'd need a volume control and 100 watts after a party on Tony's pizza.!!

Mike, when determining the correct position of the roll, one needs to first consider if the roll is north or south of the equator and east of west of the prime meridian. Next, determine the magnetic variation in that part of the world. Then, of course, one needs to review any local cultural or religious requirements. In 1923 Dr. Rudolph L Moxley of the London Observatory wrote a paper "Elements of Lavatory Tissue Placement" in which he discusses in detail the requirements for placing the roll. Hope this helps.

AM, personally I like it coming over the top, but if you replace the roll at all you're a rare breed of man.

Question: "How many men does it take to replace a roll of toilet paper?"
Answer: "We don't know, it's never been done."

I like it off the front. Paper towels the same way.

It was fun reading this arguement in Ann Lander's
columns year after year, until she got tired of debating
it. She never did come to a conclusion.

I agree with one of the answers. She is right, even if
she isn't. It aint' worth being right sometimes if you are
argueing with "She Who Must Be Obeyed."

I'll agree with your wife. But with toddlers around your way keeps them from unrolling it.

we always put the catalog down front cover up binding to the left drill hole upper left corner
rip off front page install string through hole secure ends of string together hang on nail binding to the left (sears or monkey ward best)

Larry    Posted 12-16-2002 at 17:59:53       [Reply]  [Send Email]

What happens when you run out of pages and it will be awhile until the next cataloge comes out? So the which way do you put the corn cobs in the coffee can?

gatractorman    Posted 12-18-2002 at 03:29:30       [Reply]  [No Email]
LOL doesn't matter the placement of the cobs only that there are both red and white cobs in there, and there should be twice as many reds as white use red first, then white to see if you need to use another red.

You'd think she'd give you a bad time for doing her job . OOOOOOOOOoh shut my mouth , hehe
Depends whether you have a cat in the house ,
They can unroll a whole roll in a split sec .
In that case your right .I like it always the same way which ever so I can go it there in the dark and don't spend ten min flopen on the roll and not getting any paper

Ole Buzzard    Posted 12-16-2002 at 12:24:42       [Reply]  [Send Email]
If you seperate the 2-ply and add another dispenser you can have two rolls for the price of one with one hanging each way

Salmoneye    Posted 12-16-2002 at 12:20:36       [Reply]  [Send Email]
Gotta defer to your wife here...

DeadCarp    Posted 12-16-2002 at 11:51:10       [Reply]  [No Email]
Either way is correct, but studies have shown that by hanging it with the flap toward the wall, something like 17% less paper is used, so you're saving a tree here and there. (That's why the hospitality industry hangs them that way)
Why not agree to hang it the other way if she quits leaving the seat down all the time? :)

bill b va    Posted 12-16-2002 at 13:30:01       [Reply]  [No Email]

you can save 50% more if you use both sides

bill b va    Posted 12-16-2002 at 13:32:36       [Reply]  [No Email]

i meant less

DeadCarp    Posted 12-16-2002 at 15:19:15       [Reply]  [No Email]
Oh, you're used to that throw-away kind? Heck, a handy snowbank will make a bushel of cobs last til spring! lol

BRW, i agree with your first version bill - SAVE 50% more by using 50% less :)
