Donna Wood December 18, 2002

I've put it off too long, it seems, with overtime and all:
Some people started shopping way back early in the fall.
But I've let other things distract me, getting in the way.
With six more days ahead of me, my Christmas starts today.

We haven't bought a tree as yet. It's gotten awfully late,
So whether we should bother now is open to debate.
But I have grandkids coming: Saturday, they're on their way.
I guess we'll find a tree somewhere. Our Christmas starts today.

Oh, I have done some shopping, and I do have presents wrapped.
The Scrooge that dwells within me is attempting to adapt.
Hopefully, in several hours, I'll send him on his way,
For I have vowed, no matter what, that Christmas starts today.

I'll buy the Christmas groceries, and I'll play my Christmas songs
And get all my priorities in place, where they belong.
I'll address all our Christmas cards, and send them on their way,
And get the guest beds ready too, for Christmas starts today.

We will run short of cash, of course. I'll use a credit card.
But with my job, the paying-back is not so very hard.
We've made it through so many times, with so much smaller pay...
So now, I'm happy to announce that Christmas starts today!

I read your poem this morning, somehow it made me feel like it was written for me..

Kept me thinking all day about my lack of christmas spirit. Went about all the things I had to do today; none of them personal or domestic chores.

As I was driving to my dad [with your poem ringing in the back of my mind] I decided that christmas should start today.

Came back home and got all my christmas lights out and decorated the outdoors, we just finished.

The house looks great and I feel ready to enjoy the holidays. I also made myself the promise to get our christmas three ready on sunday.

Maybe your poem had nothing to do with my motivation but it sure helped.

Thanks Donna

I like the poem. If you did that; that quick in one morning, you are surely gifted.

Very nice poem, I just finshed all my Christmas stuff last night. Just might be a record for me, not being in the stores Christmas eve...

Happy Holidays
