West Nile virus vaccinations
[Return to Topics]

Have decided to get our mule and donkey vaccinated for the West Nile virus for sure. Have a little bit of time, since we'll still have freezing temperatures for several more months. Right at the end of the season, quite a number of local horse cases turned up, and I read that there were thousands of horse fatalities nationwide.

But I'd also like to vaccinate (or have a vet vaccinate) the goats and sheep too. Anybody know anything about using this vaccine on critters other than equines?

thanks,
Tom A

Just remember not to give it at the same time you give RHINO shot!! Could have negative reaction if given together.

I'd think twice about innoculating any meat animal for sure!

Course I could be totally off...I have paid very little attention to West Nile living so far North...Only migratory birds have been found with it here...

Best thing you can do is talk to oyur vet who will be giving the vaccinations. It was my understanding the vaccine was only approved for equine use, but perhaps that changed now
