I collect alot of stuff and lumber is one of them. I store my lumber in an old hog shed with a concrete floor. For the second time now I have TERMITES. Treated the boards with lorsban the first time and now they are there again. Looks like they are coming out of a fence post hole in the concrete, what do the experts use, I sure hate to loose any more good lumber, some of it is 18 inches wide.

Don't know what kind of termites you have Bob, but the ones we had out west needed to seek water every day & couldn't cross 6" of concrete without developing dehydration-related skin(shell) problems. I've seen a little thing like a wooden stake leaning against a pier in a crawl space - sure enough it was hollow and had served as a bridge to the house's framing. In that case, we had to replace a whole kitchen corner - the windows were only held in by stucco anymore. Maybe you could pile the boards on concrete blocks and make sure you could always see around the pile.

I'd have to agree with that. Get the wood off the ground/concrete. Try some 8x8x16 blocks with terminte caps on them that should solve your problem.

Dang, DC, you got them termites in Mini Soda? One more reason I'm happy to live in NH.
Let's see...no termites, no killer bees, no poisonous snakes, no tornadoes, no huge forest fahrs, no scorpions, no cockroaches, only the rare hurricane.
Course we do have to put up with a lot of flatlanders but nobody's perfect.

No, not Mn, those termites were in California. Some tried to migrate here but their little mukluks kept sticking to the ice and anchoring the poor little guys - then every Spring, the chickens would peck their ters off and we only ended up with mites. It's a shame too - a Termite Festival could have been fun. Oh well, we always have St Urho :)

We don't need that stuff Les!    Posted 01-13-2003 at 03:51:30       [Reply]  [Send Email]
Mother nature tries to kill us for 3-4 months straight every year...That's why we get a pass on all the other fun stuff...

No earthquakes either.

I would get rid of the termites (no idea how being from Vermont and all) and make it second priority to fill that posthole (and any others) with a bag of Sacrete...
