We have a chimpmunk in our yard that is eating roots on evergreens and is now getting to our holly bushes that we recently bought.
Can anyone give me advice on how to get rid of this cute little varmit???? You all are so helpful and I appreciate any advice you can give.
Thanks.

We have chimpmunks all around our house & they have made holes all over the lawn. Is there some kind of spray so the odor will make them run away. They are so cute, I hate to hurt them, but they are becoming quite pesty. Thanks, Vicki PS If no spray, let me know what else I can do.

Fox urine is the scent that will get rid of the Chimpmunks. I picked some up at a local Agway for $16.00. It came with three devices that will allow you to 'hang' the urine in various places they are causing mischief. It's been working very well for me.

Speaking about chipmunks, Alvin & the Chipmunks recorded a silly version of my radio theme song, Ragtime Cowboy Joe. Just thought I'de throw in a little humor on this post.

I have a great way to get rid of chipmunks, although I don't know how humane it is. It is a quick death and they do a lot of damage. Fill a 5 gallon bucket of water half full with water, sprinkle bird seed or sunflower seeds to cover the water. Put near a something to have them climb in. We put near a wood pile. My mom uses a ramp to the bucket. We have killed 5 in two days. Don't get me wrong, I love animals, but these critters are taking over my yard.

A PLAIN OLD FASHIONED RAT TRAP WITH PEANUT BUTTER ON IT WILL TAKE CARE OF ANY CHIPMONK. RAT TRAP COSTS $2.00. CHEAP AND QUICK!

Use a rat trap and bait it with a sunflower seed. I've caught dozens that way. They like to use plastic drain pipes for their home. Problem is they will cut a hole in the side and fill up the pipe with soil.

I've heard, but never tried, that if you put chewed Spearmint gum by their holes, they will eat the gum, but can't digest it and they will die. It may be an old wives tale.

I was told the sweet smell of Juicy-fruit gum is the way to go.

Joan Samolinski    Posted 03-28-2004 at 20:47:45       [Reply]  [Send Email]
Does anyone have any other suggestions as to getting rid of chimpmunks other then the gum.
Has anyone tried the gum method and if so did it work.

My mom has this trouble too.
I generally find a .22 does the job nicely.
The trouble at my parent's house is that the little boogers nest in the stone wall. I hate to shoot 'em there as I'm afraid of a ricochet. So we wait for 'em to get on the lawn..... Lots of time .22 birdshot fixes 'em too.

i have chimpmunks burrowing in my lawn, how bwst to get rid of them

IHank    Posted 06-27-2001 at 11:06:25       [Reply]  [Send Email]
Mom- Mark and Salmoneye got it right. Get you a puss cat with a litter of kittens to feed, step back, and let nature work the problem out for you. Feed the cats just enough to keep 'em around and keep 'em outside as "barn cats". If you feed 'em to much and/or let 'em inside they'll get lazy and won't forage for food like they're supposed to. In addition to chipmunks they'll take care of rats, mice, and all sorts of undesirable critters around your place. Good luck, IHank

Rich    Posted 06-27-2001 at 10:02:17       [Reply]  [Send Email]
If you put mothballs around whatever you don't want the chipmunks to eat, it will keep them away. No need to kill the cute little critters!

Jo Ann Snyder    Posted 09-16-2002 at 05:47:01       [Reply]  [Send Email]
How do I get rid of chipmunks? I see their holes and see them. Do they also raise the dirt? Or is that moles? If so, how do I get rid of them? Thank you, Jo Ann

Freddies Mom    Posted 06-27-2001 at 17:46:12       [Reply]  [Send Email]
I'm so glad you came up with the mothball fix! Cats just isn't an option for me. I was ready to use the .22 calibre as Ludwig suggested, but I'll try the mothballs first. If that doesn't work -well, then the rat poison.....
Thanks gang.

Good luck with the mothballs. I'm on here looking for a solution b/c my father-in-law has a chipmunk problem when he puts his RV in storage for the winter. Last year he used two boxes worth of mothballs and the little buggers still cam. All the mothballs seem to do was create an appetite for his upholstery. Has anyone tried a battery powered sonic emitter? In my web travels I also came accross this site: http://www.baar.com/moles.htm

have tried the d-con and steel wool, they are under my house, outside in our rock garden, and I am afraid they are in the attic, I saw one going up the wall in the garage, I put d-con at there and they moved it, and on our screen in patio, they are going and coming out of the vent under the house onto our patio, have d-con there, doesn't work, even have those emitors electric senors, they don't work, we are over-run with them this year. HELP

i find nailing up dead chimpmunks to your house as a good way to ward off 'dem varmits. of course if you nail them up you can't make a chimpmunk stew.

Mark    Posted 06-27-2001 at 05:15:44       [Reply]  [Send Email]
Cats.
We have two cats outside that probably average 1 chipmunk per day. Way too many chipmunks otherwise around here. Need to keep the predator/prey balenced else things get nasty out of hand.

Salmoneye    Posted 06-27-2001 at 05:26:32       [Reply]  [Send Email]
Mark is right.
Cats will do it...
