NO,,,, I had not seen the used barrell cookers,,, and now that I have I suggested to the boss that perhaps we should take a ride up north! NO CHANCE!
However I have made alot of roaster/cookers from oil tanks, and I'm thinking that mebbe I could do this thing here in Poverty Patch. I only got about 4 hours sleep yesterday, but I was having sappy daydreams all the way to Long Island and back last night.
Hoping to catch a nap, now that I'm home and finalize the plans. LOL
Thanx alot
Ron

Spose I probably shouldn't show you the link to Jakemans' in Ontario then...They have quite the list of flat pans that would fit right on that barrel...

Aint I a stinker?...I hate being the only one with sappy daydreams...

Salmoneye

PS...Still waiting to hear back from Bascoms about U1199 a 2 1/2 by 5 1/2 with lots of extras...Don't even know if they still have it, but for $1800, I would take a ride to NH with the truck this weekend if they do...

Mutt can tell you right where Bascom's place is. They are a huge maple producer...by far the biggest in NH, I believe. Mutt has worked in their area for 30 years. He knows everybody down that way. Even more than the people who live there, I bet.

I bet you are right about Mutt...

The people up at Leader in St. Albans told me about Bascoms...They have quite the website and I bet the woman there in customer sevice is getting sick of me by now this week LOL...

Good thing the week is over and she can ignore my e-mails till Monday now ;-)

Les...BTW, Salmoneye    Posted 01-17-2003 at 15:28:25       [Reply]  [No Email]
I checked this week's Market Bulletin for small evaporators and there weren't any. Just a couple of items under "Maple" and that weren't one of them.
Is Grimm still in business? Wasn't that a Vermont Company? Seems like everybody's sugar rig around here was a Grimm Lightning. It was certainly state of the art at one time.

Grimm was bought by Leader back in '63...They still market the Grimm Lighting which is still made in Rutland Vermont (and is still a dang good rig!)...The link below is for the main company page...Click history and it will tell you the other companies that they bought up back then also...'State Of The Art' seems to have gone in directions I never want to go...Give me a good wood fired arch and a drop flue pan and I will be happy...Reverse osmosis and oil just do not produce the flavour I want...Sweet, yes...Maple, no...

Ron/PA,, EH, HEM,, ABOUT THAT JAKEMANS SITE??    Posted 01-17-2003 at 18:40:46       [Reply]  [No Email]
That's not funny, I've been driving google ga ga,and I haven't found it yet.
Don't you dangle that carrot unless you plan on dropping it some time down the road
Ron

Sorry bout that...    Posted 01-18-2003 at 02:32:09       [Reply]  [Send Email]
It is an old site that they have not updated in a while, but they do still exist and do sell a whack of stuff in ontario...Just remember that all prices are in CDN Dollars!...The site is:

Jakemans Maple

Now...just to show you how addicting this can get...Here is my 20 year plan evaporator...Course I will have to buy 1000 acres and run 20,000 taps by then LMAO!

It gets in your blood, I tell you what...

;-)
