A Question For Canadian Hog Farmers
[Return to Topics]

I know that you folks usually don't grow corn like we do down here in the lower 48,and the you usually grow small grains like wheat, barley, and oats. The question I have for you is,how and what do you feed to your weaned pigs. Do you hull the gran before you grind it? Plus, what are some of your feed feeding rations(starter, grower, finishing) with the use of small grains?

Hey Larry,,, I'm not a hog farmer, but I buy my feed from Puratone feeds. They have a web site where they list their formulas for hogs...
Hope this helps...

Pig feed    Posted 01-23-2003 at 16:43:17       [Reply]  [No Email]
Most pig feed is a comination of oats and barley, either ground or rolled, depending on the age of the pigs. They mix in various minerals, and some use soy meal. The larger commercial farms are very computerized and the feed is automaticaly mixed for the different sized pigs.

Do you take the hulls off the grain before you grind it for feed?
We use corn for the base of our hog rations. With a mineral mix and soybeen meal added to it.
