MY THOUGHTS ON THE SHUTTLE TRAGEDY
Today I'm reminded that life can be strange:
I start my day certain that things never change;
Then the trivial problems that bother my mind
In the flash of a newscast are all left behind.
Suddenly I don’t care who disagrees
With my faith or my politics; do as you please.
I cherish opinions that make us unique,
And I will defend staunchly your own right to speak.
Tragedies often unite us as one:
We'll be better people when this is all done.
Sure, we'll have fusses and problems and spats...
Let's face it, we're nothing but overgrown brats!
But, like little children, we still can be friends.
We will disagree, but we'll make up again!
This space shuttle thing grieves America's mind,
But perhaps it will soften the hearts of mankind.
Change in perspective does all of us good:
God knows we’d bring those folks back, if we could:
But all we can do with the grief we now feel
Is to reach out to others with love that is real.
