I want to thanks everyone that posted or emailed me ideas. i'm going to forward them to ladies aux. i think some of you hit on the main problems. lack of planning which leads to lack of advertising.

Advertising is the key to success of a fundraiser! When we didn't get started planning early enough and didn't do any advertising except in the paper and on the radio, we didn't do diddly squat in the way of business. We found we also had to make mass quantities of flyers and put them up on bullitin boards at all the stores, in store windows AND LEAVE A STACK BY THE CASH REGISTER OF ANY STORE THAT WILL LET YOU. If folks can take a flyer home and put it on their refrigerator, they'll remember to come to your event! Don't put flyers under the wipers of cars in parking lots, it ticks folks off. It helps to use colored paper, as color printing is too expensive, but the colored paper is good for grabbing attention in a sea of flyers on a board. We have access to a copy machine and just bought the paper and a new ink cartridge for the machine. You can get colored paper pretty cheap at Wally World.
For the kids beauty pageant, we found out how many kids in school at the lower grades and how many home rooms for the upper grades and made that many flyers. (You have to get permission from the school board to deliver the flyers.) The little kids each need one to take home and show mom. The older ones are big enough to know if they want to do it or not and tell mom. Deliver the flyers a good 10 days to two weeks before the pageant.
