Lazy, Pesty Neighbors

Our houses are far apart up where I live, 1/2 mile or farther. Thus, no one is 'in your face, so to speak. Anyways, what does I do when a neighbor just becomes a pest. For example:

1) Drops off four huge tubs of books and says sell it for us on eBay- This would take weeks to even sort out let alone manage the selling.
2) Has computer & a new car, but will not get internet service thus their kids come over to use our computer every week.
3) Does everything to get us to run errands when we go to town or dropoff their kids here or there.
4) Takes off downstate, then calls us to go feed the their animals- no warning, many times, 1 to 2 hour job, below zero out, etc. Their older, 17 year old daughter is next door (200 feet away) at their grandpas, yet will do nothing. She does not like home- easier at grandpas, I guess.

Their older girls are 14 & 17, are boy nuts, run around in summer with loose tank tops, making out with boys in front of everyone, etc. Ok with mom, I guess. Can't believe the girls are not 'preggers' already.

Basically a pain, only bottom line is they have never asked to borrow money.
I would like to tell them to 'take a hike'.

I live in an apartment complex and the tenant above us always slams things on floor blares his music late in night. His girlfriends child runs back and forth on floor til after 11 p.m. and it does not stop til after 11 p.m. Complained about him but he still dont stop. Finally, we take a broom and start sliding it across ceiling to let him know what it is like to try to sleep with the noise. As I am writing this now, he is banging and it is 3 a.m. We did the broom thing for first time tonight, but probably wont be the last if he don't chill out. try living here for night..lol. He dont stop the noise though til after 2 a.m. if not longer.

I'd let the stuff just lay. Don't do anything. When they ask, just say you did have time to get a round to it....over and over again. they'll get the hint. Feed the animals? Just say you're taking off too and won't be in town either. If they found out you didn't go, just say plans fell thru...etc....etc.... The older I get, the more I realize how lazy people really are. The more you do, the more you'll HAVE to do........

I have two close neighbors. (each 1/2 mile away)One I wouldn't pee on him if he was on fire. The other I would do anything for them and they will do anything for me, they are more like family, we even invite each other to our family fuctions!

You did the right thing. and it shows that you are the better man. i once heard a story like this. except when the fellow started pulling, the guy he was pulling put his tractor in gear to pull in the opposite direction. he was so contrary as to not let the fellow have the satisfaction of pulling him out.

while i'm rambling, we had an incident about road use in our area (Southern Virginia). after years of arggrevation over road use, the guy snapped. shot the neighbor, the neighbors brother and when the neighbors wife came out to see what was going on , blew her away. i guess that took care of the problem. now he doesn't have to worry about road use for a long time.

rhud errr...ment to post at neighbors 101 above    Posted 02-25-2003 at 19:48:52       [Reply]  [Send Email]

1) No.
2) Go home were busy.
3) Sorry not going that way.
4) Please leave a message.

Probably have been and mom is pro-choice.

Just wait they will.

Be a nice guy and just start saying no. They'll look somewhere else for the handout.

I guess we lucked out in the neighbor dept.We have the best people around us.We all help each other with no conditions or anything. One hand washes the other so to speak. We like to swap labor on different jobs we all get going. You all know about that I'm sure.To much to do and no time to do it all.Just put your foot down and let it be known NO!!! That was a hard word for me to learn but I have to use it sometimes.Good luck.

JimBob, Fawteen hit the nail on the head, If one of my neighbors called me and told them that they left and I need to feed their critters, I'd ask them if I should feed them to the coyotes, bears, or my dogs,,, then I would tell them that there is no way that I am going to feed for them! I would give them one option, should I call their daughter and tell her, or call the humane society and tell them?? Then follow through.
All of my neighbors know that they can call me and I'll help them out in a pinch, some of them even tell me where the key is to their back door. NONE of them would ever pull that on me. Drop a bunch of books on my step, and get books, magazines, and some garbage back and it won't be packaged.
No one can take advantage of you unless you allow it.The fact that the best you can say about them is that they don't borrow money tells me that I wouldn't want them as friends. So I'd set out to p!ss them off asap.
Later
Ron
PS, I'd plow out their drive when h3ll froze over!

Call them in the middle of the night, ask for a jump, or a tow, or a run to the all nite Wallyworld. See how they respond. Do it a couple of times. Some folks don't know that it is geneally thought to be a two way street... this favor stuff.

Good neighborly relations benefit both neighbors-

Being known for being an A-hole has it's benefits. I would have no trouble dealing with these folks by just telling them that I'm not their Mommy, and they need to get off their arse and fend for themselves.

But then, I don't get a lot of Christmas cards either...

Fawteen you and my hubby are so much alike it's scary. If he never even saw the neighbors it would suit him just fine. Doesn't mind them you know, as long as they don't encroach.

I might add, they are not poor. Have a very nice 2500 sq ft home, out buildings, lots of land- everything was about given to them by family or welfare/wicks/speciality programs one time or another. Problem is 'dad' is a great guy, steady worker, volunteer fireman, etc. Its his wife that is the issue, had 7 children- now the world owes her. Yet, these are not 'dirty' people, drug users, domestic abuse or alcohol abusers, etc!

Fawteen - Nope    Posted 02-25-2003 at 07:14:54       [Reply]  [No Email]
Just lazy, self-centered slobs who feel the world owes them a living.

Same rules apply.
