Reading the posts further down about druggies getting their meds and welfare checks made me think of a related topic. I worked as a civilian at an Army base for 14 years in various jobs and then came the Base Closure Act. I made it thru the first couple of rounds of layoffs and then I was slated to get bumped back to be a security Guard. Anyway there was quite a stringent physical for this position I had passed it ten years earlier with no problem but had gotten a bit lax in the intervening years so I did have some concerns. So I asked at personnel what would happen if I failed it. This no shutt was the answer "Well if you can't perform the requirements of the job we would have to let you go, BUT IF YOU WERE TO FAIL YOUR URINALYSIS WE WOULD HAVE TO FIND A POSITION FOR YOU!" Ain't our government grest though.

Pitch, it was disheartening for me. All I needed was money to feed my family. As soon as the addicts got the money it went right back to the booze or drugs. And they were my friends, took them many times to the hospital for the free services too. Thankfully I no longer need the help I couldn't get. Perhaps even better for it. Won't happen again.
