heard of people using a tumble bug attached to a cable or chain across the pond. haven't tried it myself so i can't swear by it. i always hire a backhoe for the job figuring by the time i rigged the tumble bug and then lost it in the middle of the pond i'd be ahead.
good luck!

Mojo, never heard of a machine tumblebug. How's it work?

not so much as a machine as an implement. it's basically 3/4 of a cylinder (1-1/2diax3/4/5wide) with a cutting edge that digs into anything underneath and scoops it up. once full, you drag it to an appropriate place and pull a line to 'roll'(tumble) it to dump. then leave 'tumbled' til ready to dig again. wish i had figured out how to post a picture so i could show you better. with the weather here tonight, maybe i'll get a chance to figure that out tomorrow!

Dredge what? Weeds?
When i was a kid, my dad used one section of a spring tooth drag to dredge weeds out of one of ours. Pulled it out with a tractor. One of us kids pulled it back in with a rope from across the pond.
My brother built a smaller version a couple years ago to dredge weeds out of the shore line of the lake he lives on. He pulled it with his 4wheeler. Others around the lake seen it work, and paid him to build one for them too.
