Saw the following story this morning and thought it couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of ungrateful panzies! They can't run a company, but they want to tell us what we should do!

"Heavily indebted France Telecom has reported a record full-year loss of 20.7bn euros ($22.5B) in 2002...the state-owned company reported a net loss of 8.3bn euros in 2001...."

Don't you think maybe France has seen enough war. They've been overrun 2 times in the last century. Thrown out of Indo china. Green Peace sank one of their battleships and they have been beaten up and thrown out of countless other places. They possibly don't want anymore trouble. I don't think we have a right to try and twist them into helping us.

The French were overrun the second time *exactly* because they refused to stand up to a nasty little dictator while they had the opportunity to do so with relative ease. Exactly the same situation as today.

If Hitler had been removed in 1936, 1937, or '38, while he was weak, no millions of people would have died or others had their lives disrupted.

But no, a lot of ignorant people (ignorant of human nature and international relations) wanted "peace at any cost" and let the guy build up power and start a much worse war than would have happened had appropriate action been taken early. France's big claim after that was "at least we kept Paris from being bombed." Hitler was very close to having a nuke and intercontinental delivery back then--what would have happened then? We'd all be speaking German right now and saluting with raised right arm.

We were lucky Hitler didn't know what he was doing. If we would have wacked him you run the risk of someone who knows tactics and isn't such a lunatic to step in and run the show. Then what...

So if we set the precedent of pre-emptivly striking nations that we find threatening, what is to stop the UN from forcing us to be inspected or be occupied or be disarmed.(Not saying it may not be necessary in Iraq) Where do you draw the line? Next there will be mass deportations of different ethnic groups, marshal law, it goes on and on.
We are inspecting now and is slowly working, but i don't think it is wise to go without worldwide support, obviously if all but 2+ nations disagree with the action it might need rethinking.

I don't think we really want their "help" we just want them to not veto. As you correctly pointed out, they ain't very much help in a fight.

If you may remember, the Allies lost 38 planes in the last war with Iraq, partly due to the integrated air defense system that France installed. Of those lost planes, 4 were AV-8B Harriers, 3 of which were shot down by shoulder launched heat seekers.

I still say that the whole reason that France does not want us going in, is due to their fingerprints all over the nuclear program in Iraq...After the Israelis took out the first reactor...Chirac immediately offered to help rebuild...

I have also seen convincing arguments all over (including PBS) that contend that Germany has sold and equiped mobile biological laboritories...

The Russians just want the price of oil to stay high...Hence their opposition...

I agree wholeheartedly!
