OK, got another stupid question for y'all. Seems I can't figure out how to manage hay very well. I must move the same hay a dozen times each year before I finally feed it.
Right now the barn's almost empty because I've been feeding like the dickens with all the snow on the ground. There's maybe a hundred pounds of loose and 12 bales of nice timothy in there now. I'm buying 25 bales of mixed grass on Thursday as "insurance" in case we get another big storm....hopefully won't need much of it.
So do I want to stack it in the back or the front?
I mean, this fall do I want to feed the now year-old bales first, or feed my fresh loose hay first and hang on to the bales in the back for emergencies since they take up much less room than my loose hay?
How long can I keep the bales before it loses its nutrient value?
I usually bring in about 3-4 tons loose, and it is a beggar moving it back and forth by hand!
thanks for hearing me out,
