Marek's Disease Questions
[Return to Topics]

What is Marek's Disease and should I have my new chicks vaccinated when I order them? Can people get Marek's Disease from the chickens? Is the desease common? If I have our birds vacinated, is the vaccine transmitted in the eggs or meat of the bird? I really hate the thoughts of chemicals in the birds, but if it is ok and if it helps the birds health I would consider it. Also, what about that chick starter stuff you put in there water when they arrive? Does that stay in thier systems? Thanks for any info!

What kind of antibacterial product might be recommended in support of one day chicken vaccination against Marek disease?

I'm nurturing a growing chicken with Marek's Disease and would like to know if he is eventually going to die or rather, become immune to the disease after a certain time passes. Aside from a vaccination, what other home remedy may I use to get him better? Would he also need extra room to exercise his legs assuming that he improves, or does he need to be contained? Food and water is readily available beside him.

Hi-
Saw your posting about vaccinating adult birds for Mareks. Is this effective? what is the dosing?
I'm inquiring because my daughter's 4-h leader has Marek's in her flock, and we don't want to get it.
Thanks, Susie
