Snapping turtles and wood ducks...............

My husband and I work hard to keep the snapping turtles away. We have several turtle traps and we use them all summer. It takes a lot of planning and work to be able to have chickens, ducks and geese. There are so many varmints that would wipe them all out in just one night if you didn't take precautions. The work is very much worth it!!

Our DNR uses a neat live trap for turtles so they can count, examine & release them. It's sortof a heavy-wire & 2x2 box with a carpeted plywood ramp at one side, and has a ring of rigid foam tied around it to make it halfway float. Then the whole thing is tied to a sapling. They just crawl up, looking for a sunny perch and oops!

Any turtle will eat young ducks. Just grabs them by the foot and pulls them under and eats them.
