Will be helping to put the second story on a garage. Concrete block with 3/8 metal plate on top which will be welded to 3/8 thickness bar joice. Which rod would be better 7018 or 6011? The metal will be clean no rust. AC or DC.
thanks DavePA

yea i agree,as long as the metal is clean use 7018, it is a low hydrogen rod so it is less suceptible to hydrogen imbrittlement which can make a nice looking weld break right in half

thanks for the information.. does ac or dc make much difference with the quality of the weld?

Whenever possible go with DC-smoother performance-your experience level helps too..

7018 will be stronger but make sure your weld area is very clean(NO RUST) If you can't get that clean go with 6011-it will burn thru the rust and still give you a tensile strength of over 60,000 lbs.per
