Help! I need some quick advice.
My little orchard has reacted to the last 2 or 3 weeks of warm, sunny weather and buds have swollen on almost everything...the peaches have leaf buds popped open already, and blossom buds aren't far behind.
Right now there is a freezing weather storm about 100 miles away, bearing down fast. 2"-4" of snow expected beginning in just a few hours, with temperatures the next 2 nights dropping to the low 20s.
I am considering wrapping the 2-4 year old trees in big plastic trash bags until the cold weather passes. It is only 2 days/nights, only a dozen trees, and I have enough time & trash bags...I really want to save these buds this year because if you remember, I haven't gotten any fruit off these trees yet (hope springs eternal, right?).
Can anybody think of a better idea, or reason not to wrap them?
thanks for any advice,
