I need to know how to keep snakes off of my dock, the big ugly water snakes. As well as garter snakes on my property. Any suggestions.

first off the snakes you are talking about are completly harmless so all you have to do is gently show it away with a broom. though thier are many products out their that say they work (snake away traps and so on) they have been disproven again and again that they do not work. It's a part of nature and living in snake territory comes with the house. Please rember snakes will not attack you for no reason and do need our conservation they pose no risk to you nor your samily so simply please tolerate them don;t kill them on sight and just shoe them away with a broom or pick them up and place them off your property( which was thier home first).
Thank you

Alexander King wrote the book 'Let this House be safe from Tigers' in 1960. In it he stated that the only two things that man has a natural fear of are snakes and women...which convinced him that they were both alien to this earth.

I scatter moth balls around outside the house in the fall. Keeps the mice away from eating the bark on my schrubs and the snakes away.

It's natural for a human to hate snakes, even monkeys are afraid of snakes, and sometimes for good reason. Usually when a snake is encountered it is a surprise, scaring the s--- out of both snake and person. If they are harmless, they probably do more good than harm, but I don't blame you, I don't cotton to em either. Iv'e heard keeping guinea fowl will help but don't know for sure.

Might not want to get rid of the garter snakes. They eat a lot bugs and mice and such.

I agree with randy.Keeping the garter snakes around is good insect and rodent control, plus they are harmless. They come off as being all big and bad when you come up on them but harmless. The water snakes I dont know what you can do to get rid of them, sounds like it would be pretty hard to.

I use a stainless steel short-snout .38 Special, loaded with snake shot. Only effective up to 12 or 15 feet, and noisy, but convenient to carry working outside, impervious to sweat and Off.
