This is really strange.... well at least I think it is. Our aussie/border collie cross just had pups a few weeks ago. About a week after giving birth she started stealing things...

the cordless phone
remotes to the tv, vcr, dvd
even the electronic hand held yatzee game!

She steels them and then puts them with her pups. She did steal a GI Joe once but all the other times it's something electronic.

She even nabbled the reciever of the stationary phone and drug it across the room toward her pups until the 25' cord wouldn't go any farther.

She steals something daily. Have you ever heard of a dog doing this before? She's a real smarty other wise, good farm dog. Just a little high tech theif too I guess.

alright I'll give it a shot. All of those things are held in the hands. Even the GI Joe. All have hard plastic surfaces. The hands sweat and leave mineral deposits, especially salt. Now couple this with the fact that she just had pups and is probably lacking in vitamins herself. My guess is she needs vitamins or supplements and is smart enough to get them where she can.

Enjoyed your post Honeybee - our house cat Pepi is a real character & pulls packrat duty once in awhile when he wants attenton.

One day i was on the phone and a cop pulled in, asking who had called 911! I checked around and nobody had, so i suggested maybe it was Pepi since he'd been playing with the cord. The cop gave me one of those "How much have you been drinking?" looks and left.

Well a couple weeks later, i'm running off a document copy for the same deputy, and my scanner takes awhile so he sat down. He was wearing his walkie-talkie on his belt and it had a nice strap, Pepi loves straps so suddenly the cop said "Hey - hey!" We both looked around and there goes Pepi with his radio, got halfway under the bed before we caught him and then he thought it was a tug-o-war game!! So after retrieving his radio, i asked the deputy, "Now do you believe he dialed 911?" :) pets can get strange ------

A cat dialing 911.... I can believe it. That's funny! Particularly the tug-o-war to keep it. What a character.

Tonight Clover pulled a good one again. I got home before DH and when he got here he said "phone off the hook when you got home?" Well I hadn't seen it but my 17 yo son had and he said "ya, it was on the floor again stretched half way across the floor."

DH laughs and says "I know, I called and "SOMEBODY" picked it up and you could just here it being drug and dropped along the ground"
Of course the only one here was Clover and her litter of pups.

I was wondering if the ringing was making her go get the phone. But that doesn't explain the remotes and I've seen her steel the phone when it's just sitting there. Maybe she was waiting for a call? ;-)

She pretty much follows me around, sleeps by me etc, but I RARELY use the remotes. I guess she's just ODD!

OH..... she's taken to stealing eggs too. Can't let her anywhere near the hens/eggs she'll swipe them and eat them. She's always been a little strange. Will pull your covers off of you when she wants to get up in the morning and if you ignore her she'll bite your feet. But the clepto mania has certainly been interesting. At least she doesn't chew anything. LOL

I think she just wants to get someone near her puppies so she can show you how proud she is of them. When we had Border Collie pups, we lavished Mom and the pups with attention. A couple of designated hours everynight. We were careful though, I had a different female that abandoned her pups thinking I would take over for her. I had to lock her up with the pups until she went back to mothering. Your dog sounds wonderful. I love critters with quirky personalities.

Just a thought...who uses these electronics
the most and who does she admire the most in
your family. I had a Lab once, that just before she had her pups she lined her "nest" with
a lot of my personal stuff, hair brush, slippers,
tv remote,the towel I used that morning..etc.

Have her checked out by the vet. Could be hormones, had one female go into false labor after her first season. Hope this helps.
