anybody have a way to get rid of woodpeckers, short of shooting them (wife won,t let that happen), we have a sign out front for our store they got holes dug it that then they get on the roof, chimney or metal gate, bright and early and start hammering away , sounds like a gattlin gun, patience is wearin thin with these two , any ideas?

Awwwe Toolman. They are just twitterpated! The loudest Pecker gets the girl. They'll go away soon. Could you cover the back of sign with something soft to dull the sound? Like rubber, or foam padding? That might help. It won't be as attractive then.

All i can do is chuckle and shake my head toolman, my father-in-law had an overturned pail on the cabin chimney in summertime, i don't know how many times he ran out there in his long johns and just called those woodpeckers every name in the book! No more than crawled back in bed, rattly-bang-bang again! He used to get red just asking us why in the name of ___ a woodpecker pecks a bucket! No help i guess but i told him the bird was trying to train him. Pellet guns are cheap & pretty quiet :)

well i know how your father in law felt, they start on the tin cap on my chimney about day break, im tell ya if i could just get my hands on them for 5 sec.what a pest , they pretty much finished the sign off today , wife had a horse cutout over the store name they finished with the back board and had at the horse part today, not much left of it,their enough to drive a sane man crazy , i mean it , id take the 20gauge after them but i know id be up fixing the roof an chimney for sure , well thanks folks for all your answers , thinking of taking the sign down the road to the neighbours an leave it there , and then when they finished with it they will go after his chimney and leave me alone .

Next time you go to one of those huge superstores where they have a grocery dept and a lunch area, take a look up in the rafters---rubber blacksnakes--to scare away the stray birds that get in through the dock doors(not nice to get bird doo in the french fries or the orange juice). Ought to work for woodpeckers, too. Or, maybe you could get some beef suet and give them something to eat.

A neighbor has three owl decoys on his roof. Seems to work.
