Are things getting later or is it just me? If things are getting later, i'm as guilty as anybody - in my working days my favorite excuses were "not a morning person", "they don't lose a dime til i punch the clock", & "5-year attention span". I don't quite go back to horse & buggy doctors, but i do remember house calls and giving a nice turkey to the preacher, so i go back aways. I remember grampa HAVING to carry the separator parts to the milkhouse and start chores precisely at 4. Of course that meant he started at 4 AM too. But nowdays if you're sick before 10 in the morning, go to emergency. And the doctor's on his way. We hope. Nowdays not many shops open til 9, mostly at 10. Ask the average kid what their favorite starting time is - bet it ain't 4 AM. :)

Seeing that I now work for myself, I sleep-in until 8:30am everyday. The best sleep for me is from 4am to 8am or so. I feel well rested for the first time in 20+ years & I do not need blood-pressure pills anymore.
I actually look younger now. About 43, not the 53 I really am. Of course, a full head of dark hair helps.

On my last job I used to work 4 10 hour shifts, was up at 4:00am. Got laid off 2 years ago, job market up north in Mi is not that great, still looking for full time work in computers, corrections (county level) or loss prevention. Currently working part time afternoons (anywhere from 24 to 50 hours per week), and tend to sleep in a little later in the mornings. Get up earlier on bright suny days and days off. Tend to sleep in on dissmimal and cold days.

I get up at 7:30. Get to work at 9:30. Leave work at 7:00PM and get home about 8:00PM.

I am not a "morning person" if left to my own devices. Too many years of working swing shift and graveyard. I tend to do my best thinking in the late evening and have a hard time going to sleep before 11 PM. I believe my most effective sleep time is between 4 AM and 8AM.

In the summer time, I tend to get up fairly early to take advantage of the cooler temperatures outside, but I have to use an alarm clock or I don't wake up until much later than I had planned.

Just another example of how different people can be.

I am a morning person, kind of, I'll get up at 4:30 every morning,, but I WILL!!! have a cup of coffee or two before I start. Other than that we are lucky around here, we only have a few businesses around here and I know where the keys are for 3 out of 4,, I can get milk, feed, or parts whenever I'm needing them. Dam bank just won't tell me where the key is, or the combination,,,,,,
Later
Ron

For years, I haven't been able to sleep past dawn, (unless I was real sick) even if I just got home two hours earlier. Just can't sleep when it is day light. But your right. Folks can't seem to get their crap together as early as years back. The feed store don't open until 8:30, some stores don't open until 10:00. Of course Walmart is open 24-7. Wonder if Walmart would be interested in selling lumber, feed and farm supplies. That truly would be one stop shopping. When I lived outside of Washington, DC, years back there was a chain of stores called Dart Drug/Home Centers, 24 hour drug stores that also sold some groceries, paint, hardware, plumbing and lumber. Made a few trips there in the middle of the night to get stuff to make repairs.

Walmart tried the feed and tack bizness near me.

The going price for 10% Hoss & Mule feed was $4.25 to $4.50 at the Mom & Pop stores.

So when the super store went 24/7 Wally put in Shawnee brand feed at $3. I like Shawnee brand but I don't like Wally.

Wally did'nt make it to starve out our co-op and feedstores. There just was'nt enuff yuppie feed buyers to keep the feed fresh enuff to keep the weevils out and the tack was more expensive at Wally's so it did'nt sell either.

I'll make you a sweet deal. Let's meet in the middle, say, 6:30. Good waking time. Birds and all. Work at 7:15. That work for ya?

I agree, I don't do mornings well at all, but why get up at 5 AM to be at work at 7? Besides, most parts stores don't open till 8. Same with most of our suppliers, some open at 9. I am He-- on wheels from noon on though. May not quit till 2AM. Real night owl.
