Last week I was putting in a new septic tank drain field for an old couple who live out by Hiway 601. A fella stopped by and said he was the supervisor for an outfit that was going to be repaving that stretch of highway. The next day they would be taking out the parts that had to be patched first, grinding up the asphalt to crusher-run size and hauling it off. He said they would have twenty-some truckloads and didn't want to haul it all the way back to Columbia to dump it. Did I know anybody who could use it nearby.
Well, yeah.
So the hunt club and I got sixteen loads, and several neighbors each got a load or two on their drives. I did my lower driveway four to six inches deep, used probably forty tons.
And the old guy whose drain field I did gave me the couple tons of leftover stone. I feel rich.
