Randy I am one of those who may mow my yard three times a year so you can tell I am not fussy about my yard. I have some tree roots about four or five inches in diamenter that run on top of the ground and it is impossible to mow has to be cleaned up with weedeater. Is there something that will grow there and cover the ground without needing to trim it all the time and will keep weed down as well?

Sid, try pachysandra, English ivy, myrtle under trees. All require a while to take over and become thick.
Maybe the fastest and cheapest way might be mulch. Cut the grass short with the trimmer, spray with Round up and mulch it. If some grass shows through once in a while hit it with Round up again.
Or add topsoil to make it level there.
How's the pancakes tasting?
