I got it...

Magic words go up screen...Many words...Muchly Koool...

I like this net thing...

Beats the heck out of bad TV or video games...

And as my Broker leapt from a short building and is not expected to recover (at least not till his bruise heals) I have absolutely nothing better to do than torture young corn seedlings by denying them rain, and hang out here and make no sense with the drivel I post...

Howdy Salmoneye..I waish when I was back on the farm we would have had computers.I had to run a mile and a half to town to find people to talk to,,And they already knew about everything I would say anyway.

I envy you...    Posted 06-29-2003 at 18:30:08       [Reply]  [No Email]
You had a town you could actually get to in a morning on foot?

My first two-wheeler was independance for me...Before that, sitting on my Grams front lawn and waving at all the cars going by was the highlight of my day...I knew every car and where they were going... All 15 or so of em...I still remember the first out of state plate I ever saw...I ran in and insisted that Gram call the State Police as there was a car with a 'fake plate' on its' way north and it should be getting to the City in about 25 minutes...

After all...There is only one road to a 5-year old, and that is the one that goes right by the front door...

Darn Salmone ..I never knew Vermont was so unpopulated.. I thought when New York overpopulated they all just moved up there and filled the place up.I sure missed a lot when I was younger and traveling because I didnt see the far northern corner of the USA..But I have not set foot in New york state either.I turned down a nice paid trip because it was to the city. imet some New Yorkers who were nothing like the bunch in the city.i guess there is a lot of area up there yet to be overpopulated?

Ron,Ar    Posted 06-29-2003 at 12:41:42       [Reply]  [No Email]
Jimbob I think he is referring to a thread that was removed from this forum on friday started out about someone being too sensitive, don't know what else happened, when I got home friday night it was removed. Then last night/early this AM a thread took a drastic left turn over on Tractor Tales and had to be removed due to "rude/adult" content.Just my guess.
BTW what do you sell on Ebay, I buy a few things there, mostly old coins and currency.

Jimbob    Posted 06-29-2003 at 14:11:51       [Reply]  [No Email]
This site does not have fights when opposite opinions are posted.

I sell lawn equipment parts, small engine, generators, electronic tubes for high-end audio, ham radio stuff, etc.

Jimbob    Posted 06-29-2003 at 13:59:47       [Reply]  [No Email]
I like this site as conflicting opinions can be posted, yet one does not discount the other post. This is very professional.

I sell electron tubes for high-end audio. Lawn tractor parts, sometimes generators. Ham radio accessories such as antennas or linear amplifiers. Misc electronic parts for above items, etc.

Ron,Ar    Posted 06-29-2003 at 14:34:23       [Reply]  [No Email]
I had a chance last weekend to buy a 1948 Admiral Television set. Had about a 9 inch screen, good cabinet, tube lit up but no picture. Cabinet was about three ft high by 2ft wide. They wanted 100 bucks. What's your opinion on this? Think I could maybe turn a profit on Ebay?

Jimbob    Posted 06-29-2003 at 18:41:43       [Reply]  [No Email]
Due to minimal parts supply, I say no. Collectors want fully functioning old TV sets. I must say old TV sets are not my specialty. I am better at old shortwave communication receivers.

Clod    Posted 06-29-2003 at 19:14:51       [Reply]  [No Email]
You must have some good instruments to work with Jimbob.I used to get those tuning sticks and aline mine by noise. Old Hallicrafers and cheap junk anyway. The shortwave reciver/transmitters were more fun when tubes were the rage.I had a new drake Tube then a Kenwood transistor in 78.I liked the Drake better but I had traded it for the transistor Kenwood.I could pass the test for general ham license but not the code part. I finally gave up because I could not recieve code fast

I gotta go along with Sid, Cindy,Fred and Clod on this. This is not only Kims site, it's by her rules.I also am like Sid, sometimes I step outta line, I apolagize for that. There are two golden rules come to mind,"treat others as you would like to be treated" nothing hard to understand about that one. The other is a sorta a golden rule too "he (she) who has the gold makes the rules". In this case it's Kim's (gold) site, so she gets to make the rules. What part of that is so hard to understand. Bottom line is that we all have rights to DECENT reading/posting here. Fella told me once Your rights end where my nose begins.

Cindi    Posted 06-29-2003 at 11:40:16       [Reply]  [No Email]
...the old adage..'live and let live'

The majority of trouble started on this site and others is due to a few individuals who take it upon themselves to dictate to the masses what is and is not appropriate discussion material.

Certain things go without saying. Lewd, crude and suggestive material is not allowed on almost all the forums I frequent. That's why I frequent them. That should be common sense. There is also a broad, not fine line, between what is humorous and what is disgusting. Most right thinking people can determine the difference.

Nine times out of ten however, these incidents stem from earlier 'slights' made regarding the content of a post or the reply to a post or the suggestion to others to 'move on'.

This world would be a lot better place if folks would learn to ignore posts that do not appeal to them, rather than make an obvious statement about the content, would take a second to be a little more careful about what they say, would avoid getting personal at ALL costs, would not form alliances (this one really gets me) and simply treat each individual on the basis of how they treat you.

I come to these forums for one reason and one reason only. To share my life experiences, and for me that means posting stories. I have been attacked repeatedly for doing this, when it would be so much simpler just to ignore me.

I have no deep philosophies or wealth of information to share, I have a simple life in a simple environment that sometimes turns funny, or touching, or sad, and I share that with whoever cares to listen.

I don't count posts, or judge content, or try to tell anybody how to function. If attacked I defend myself in a deliberate and calm manner, or ignore the 'jibe' altogether.

This board does not need a 'guide', it has a moderator. It does not need a 'forum cop', the rules are clearly posted. What it needs is people who will pretend that their mother is reading over their shoulder, every time they sit down and maybe Kim could relax and enjoy seeing this forum for what it was intended to be. A friendly exchange of ideas and thoughts in a peaceful environment.

So what you're implying is that you should be able to walk into anybody's parlor and say anything you please, even if it disgusts your host, the owner of that parlor? Your host should be denied his/her right to freedom of association? Your host should be denied the right to eject you from his/her parlor? If so, that ain't the America I grew up in.

This site is the "parlor" provided by Kim. She makes the rules known up front, and if you want to sit in her parlor, you abide by her rules. That's the America I grew up in.

Nothin at all wrong with rules Fred and everyone. In fact they are neccesary to maintain an orderly societey. But what tends to get my ire up is posts like the one in this link, where certain parties are allowed not only to make negative comments about a particular poster and also call nasty names. Name calling and stuff don't bother me none nor do political squabbles thats life. But what does bother me is the double standards which seem to be imposed upon all of Kims forums. her favorites continue to be able to say anything at all without censorship, including personal attacks, racist remarks, and obviosuly prejudiced political alliances. I will say I dont think I have ever in all my years here on YT seen you say anything out of line, maybe thats cuz your a nice guy or a politicaly correct type of person which is understandable considering your years in the corporate world. And lord knows Ive been in my share of name callig and personally slamming whenever I see any of my internet friends get blindsided and ambushed by the likes of Augie or Les, so for anyone here I have offended I apologize since I really think the majority of folks here are dang fine country people who share a lot of knowledge and common interests.

Kim    Posted 06-29-2003 at 17:45:03       [Reply]  [Send Email]
Unfair and untrue.

You are talking about someone who gives her heart and soul daily to maintain a very large website and community.

I do not have favorites.

What I have is not enough time.

I do not read every message and can only address an issue when someone calls it to my attention.

I would appreciate it if you would do your part to keep these boards free of pornographic discussions. And if you see someone else is taking advantage of my inability to hire a dozen moderators then please just send me email and I will take care of it.

Thanks,
Kim

Well you've got the fox guarding the hen house Kim, because your narcs are the very ones who make statements that are uncalled for and that bait others time and time again. Of course, if they are your "police," I'm sure they are too busy at the local doughnut shop to report themselves. Nice site though, thanks for listening.

LH oh Kim    Posted 06-29-2003 at 18:57:35       [Reply]  [No Email]
Youre totally correct I was being unfair to you and I realize you are only one person attempting to moderate a whole bunch of forums, so for that I do apologize. What is obvious is the board police, tattletalers or whatever you chose to call them dont appreciate the type of adult humor that Burrhead and I have brought to these boards over the years, and they obviousy disagree with us on political and other issues as well. However I do feel over the years that a few of us have been continually chastised for our comments which we were obviously baited into while a few who tend to act all innocent seem to get by without any personal reprimands such as those you levied against Burrhead and myself this morning on Tractor tales. Its your forum and if you chose to ban me then so be it, but I will not back down from anyone who I find insulting a person I consider to be a friend with comments that are meant soley to be personally offensive such as the commonly used Lieburral which anyone can seee who that is directed to. Thank you for your time LH

LH, thanks for posting,I agree with some of the things you said, not all. Some of you know each other better than the rest of us. We may not know when you are kidding. Diversity is the spice of life so to speak, we need all opinions. I myself have said things I regret, especially over on Common Ground.I hope you re-think your decision not to post on Tales page. I don't know why the name calling between these groups persists but I do notice it. Stick around.

Sid    Posted 06-29-2003 at 11:06:09       [Reply]  [No Email]
Dear Free Speaker, I take it you are refering to the post over on Tractor Tales board. First of all this is America the land of free speach. Hopefuly it is the land of courtesy as well. I am as guilty as the next person about telling dirty jokes and getting carried away when it comes to joking and horsing around. But there are some things that are not going to be tolerated in my home and in the presence of my wife and kids and grandkids. This site belongs to Kim and Kim has expressed her rules wich is her right as well as responsibility and she decides what is acceptable and what is not on this site. So no one is forced to stay around if they do not want to behave as she has requested. Have you ever thought of staring you own site and making your own rules?

Clod    Posted 06-29-2003 at 10:06:27       [Reply]  [No Email]
Darn, are you calling from Red China? If you make a bold statement on the right to free speech then make a new and unknowable name,This is an indicator that it is lost already.

Clod    Posted 06-29-2003 at 10:10:09       [Reply]  [No Email]
OK,,Free Speaker just made a speech on free speech.Let is see if it just hangs here then drifts off the bottom just like anybody elses. If it does..We have still that great American passtime available to us all.Free speech! OK,,Watch it now.

Clod    Posted 06-29-2003 at 12:16:05       [Reply]  [No Email]
I worry less about free speaking and more about free cooking. There is a recipe for bread pudding on this site.A person full of bread pudding is often A person with few complaints.
