It's a canadian term for a woolen stocking cap. It could be a french word I'm not sure. Neither the word or the cap are used much anymore. I think I have also heard them called a watch cap.

Not that I am argueing with you, but...

You aint from around here, are you? ;-)

A good Toque (or three) is as essential to life in the North as are a set of snow tires...Both the word and the garment are alive and well...

Toque has come to be used for just about any woolen knit hat, but that is not the origin of the word...

Well i got all excited when i heard this somewhere - they said it's a little puff off a joint. Young fella claimed he felt much better then. So one day last winter my knee was stiff as all get out - so i topped off the tank in my old service Zippo ----------

after all the stompin and whoopin my knee is more limber now but it cost half the place & took all spring for the blasted thing to heal. Them touques ain't for me son, not for me. BTW, did you know BenGay's flammable? :)

For those of us who hold a job, its a privledged benefit related to your employment position. Example, My work has a contracted used oil collection pickup. Boss doesn't mind if we bring our oil from home to dispose of it there.
